This is gorgeous, Lisa. I love the details and the crisp line work. It's really a great work.

I suspect I too have found my look for halloween. I am scheduled to paints at my kids school for their party, and I was tossing around whether to dress up or not. I don't want to have to uss with a costume whilst I am painting. So a nice comfortable black outfit, sugar skull mask and perhaps colorful accesories in my hair and Bingo.

I think I will do my face as well when I take the kids out that night and I am going to where either my company shirt or one I made that says "Ask me about my Face" Hey might as well take advantage of the opportunity to advertise.

Awesome design Tamara! It really pops with the pink around your eyes. I like starblends too. They blend well but sometime the face needs a second coat to look vibrant (IMHO). It's like using eyeshadow. I would like it if they made some with shimmer....

I just add shimmer powder on top of my starblends. It really makes them pop!

Ok I've loved all the sugar skulls I've seen. But the mask makes me want to give it a go!

Thanks for sharing Smile :giggles: that's what I say to my daycare kiddies on show-n-tell day. I guess this is our big kid "show-n-tell"

i finally got around to practicing my sugar skull for halloween. honestly, i was too tired when i started it, so by the time i got to the forehead part (saved it for last), i wasn't too happy with the way it turned out. but for a practice, i guess it's ok. i'm going to glue rhinestones in the little loops around the eyes to fill them in. i wasn't going to do that for the practice run though Razz

i wanted to go as lily munster and have my mom airbrush my face, neck & arms light green, then do her dramatic blue eyeshadow & green blush. but i don't have time to make her dress, & the packaged costume looks too cheap. so i decided to go as lily next year...if i can get started early enough making the dress.

i have an outfit i was going to throw together & go as a vampire (3rd year in a row. lol) but if i use the same outfit, throw a rose in my hair & add a shawl i have, i think this would be great! at least it is in my head! gotta practice! thanks for the inspiration! I love you

Google Sylvia Ji.... you'll find some AMAZING inspiration from her paintings.

I found out about her looking up sugar skull faces on youtube. Amazing! I used this video of a photoshoot inspired by her paintings as kind of a starting point. Just didn't add glitter or rhinestones in my practice face.

Also, I made this to wear with my costume Very Happy

Ok girls here is a test run of what I would like to do for this Friday when I go to my kids school to paint the 6th grade classes. I didn't want to do anything creepy or scary even though the 6th graders wouldn't mind but there are preschoolers, the kindergarten and 1st graders to consider. I like to keep things family friendly G- rated.

Ok so I know I really need to clean up my line work, and I think I might need to reconsider my color combo. Just doesn't pop enough for me. But here it is.........

Love all of the sugar skulls!
Do you all use Snazaroo as a base? I was wondering if DFX is too drying for use as a base--especially around the eyes.

The first one I did was done with all starblends and the 2nd one I just posted is all DFX. Doesn't feel drying to me at all.

I don't use snazaroo

I think sugar skulls are a fairly big trend this year. They always are I am sure but I have gotten more requests this year for costumes to go with this theme.
I got to paint one this past weekend too, love it!

Changing, I like it. You might want to just do a 1/2 face while you're painting. I don't know if this happens to you, but for me, the bottom of my face gets rubbed & I always mess up the design.

I got to do my 1st sugar skull last weekend at the Haunted House. The lady loved it, but I didn't. I was painting in the dark with a camping light. No pics as the lighting stunk. I want to paint one on myself, but since I'm sick I have to follow my no ill kids or me rule Very Happy cough, cough....
