Belly Painting: Sketching out the design
Have any of you done any body painting or belly painting where you wanted to make a draft of the sketch before you started painting? Like if I was doing a picture on paper, I'd do it in pencil first.
What would you use to sketch for something like that? just a paintbrush?
Thanks for any input.

Re: Belly Painting: Sketching out the design
I would sketch it out with a pencil first and then color it with colored pencils then use a black pen or marker to do the outlines. As long as I have a good sketch to look at I can paint it!! So I draw out my sketches first, not paint them.
Re: Belly Painting: Sketching out the design
I mean a way to sketch on the tummy. IF it was paper, I'd do it just like you said. Trying to see if others have some method for more intricate designs on like tummy painting.
Re: Belly Painting: Sketching out the design
I sketched the design out with a liner brush and white paint on her belly - and then promptly covered most of the sketches with my base colour, haha. Had to go off of memory. At least I had an idea of spacing then. My lettering still changed (location-wise) from start to finish though.
Re: Belly Painting: Sketching out the design
I do the same or at least in a lighter color of what the design calls for.
Re: Belly Painting: Sketching out the design
Yep, what they said. White, or a light color.
Ben Nye has a creme paint pencil I picked up once but haven't tried out. I've even heard of using eyeliner. Again, not sure how it works.

Re: Belly Painting: Sketching out the design
She's great.
I was considering using an aquarell pencil to block stuff in but I use a number 4 ans white paint.

Re: Belly Painting: Sketching out the design
I draw everything first with a white eye pencil on the belly
Then fill it in.
Take a look on my website.

Re: Belly Painting: Sketching out the design
I do the white paint sketch. A good idea is to sketch it out with the mom standing so you get the right proportion. Depending on the mom and size of baby etc, the bump can elongate quite a bit from the laying down postion to the standing.
