Decided to do a free belly... design ideas?
Well I've become so desperate to find a belly to paint on that I'm doing one for free! I emailed a woman who I've face painted for before, who happens to be pregnant again, and offered to belly paint her for free for my portfolio. I feel like I really need to get at least ONE picture of a belly painting on my website to attract other potential bookings.
So I'm just trying to decide what design I should do. I don't want to be over ambitious since it's going to be an entirely new kind of canvas to work on! My initial thought is a simple, elegant bow.
But I'd love to get some other suggestions of popular, eye-catching belly designs. Since I'll only have one to show on my website I wanna make it count!

If your doing this for your website and portfolio, i would as the mum if she would like you to make 2... one for the boys design and one for the girl, then try to make 2 totally different styles so you can show that you can do different stuff. And that your flexible in designs!
Good luck to you!
Good luck to you!

I'm thinking of doing the same thing (free belly for porfolio!) my mum is almost due(eek!) and expecting a boy...I was thinking of a blue present w/bow or just something holiday themed since he's gonna be a x-mas baby. Good idea to do a boy AND girls design though! As long as you have a willing victim..err, client, lol why not??

How did you go? Did she agree? Did you get any photos?
I encountered not one but 3 pregnant mums last Thursday while I was painting PPF at a pre-xmas twilight market. At least two seemed really interested (as volunteers), in fact, I'm almost certain I'll be painting them in the new year. Both of these ladies told me I was free to paint whatever I liked... and one of them was particularly interested in henna as well (which I have so far only tried on myself). She said I could go for my life with the painting, then clean off and start over with the henna. I have an SLR and black backdrop ready, so as long as I get the lighting right, I will have something other than practice on a dummy to put in my portfolio. Sooo... fingers crossed. Will keep you posted.
In the meantime, I'd still love to hear about your experience

I read this beautiful book from our local library and it has FANTASTIC ideas for staging pregnant women/families. They use mostly natural light but the staging and such is wonderful.
I think I might have to buy my own copy.

Haven't done it yet, unfortunately. I messaged her with the weekend I was available and she didn't get back to me in time, then the busyness of Christmas took over my life so I haven't had a chance to speak to her again! I think she's also very close to her due date now, so I'm not sure if it's going to happen. But I'm still going to keep an eye out for pregnant friends/acquaintances and hopefully get a belly painting done soon.
Hopefully you'll be able to paint those ladies! Maybe it'll be easier for me to find some ladies when I do some PPF - I have one coming up in the Spring, so fingers crossed for that too!
