HOW MANY GIGS PER WEEK.
I JUST STARTED FACE PAINTING AS A SIDE BUSINESS IN AUGUST 2014. SO I AM A ROOKIE AND HAVE MADE MANY MISTAKES. HOW MANY BOOKINGS DO YOU GUYS AVERAGE PER WEEK AND DO YOU HAVE DROUTS.
Re: HOW MANY GIGS PER WEEK.
Dear danieshouseoffun:
Welcome to the Forum!
Come on over to the introductions thread to introduce yourself around! If you go into your Profile, above, and type in your general location, you will be more visible to your local artists and you can be invited to local jams.
I believe I have made way more mistakes than you, by the way! I seem to continue to make mistakes. I wish I could say I "have it all under control". Bwahahaha!
What kind of face paint do you use? Are you primarily a brush artist, a sponge artist, or do you use a combination thereof?
I have droughts all the time. Every year, my business gets better. The bulk of my work is on the weekends. I have learned to market myself better. I have made some wonderful connections with my fellow artists, and I share my work with others, when I am double-booked, or I need a team of fabulous painters around me.
I have added Glitter Tattoos as an add-on for my business. I began to train some apprentices five years ago... and now, I learn from THEM! They are not longer my apprentices, they are my team.
Inquiries for body painting went from one every three or four weeks, now, to three to eight requests per weeks (I believe the upswing came about because of the viewing of "Skin Wars").
In the beginning, every single penny went back into my kit. I bought a LOT of rainbow cakes. I invested too early. I should have spent more time practicing my linework. I bought every single new, shiny colour that came out. I should have spent more time practicing my linework. I bought every different shade of glitter that came out on the market. I should have spent more time practicing my linework.
Meet up with others in your area.
Make friends.
Jam.
And,
practice your linework.
And,
feel free to ignore this missive!
Happy Painting!
P.S. Your 'CAPS' button appears to be 'stuck'.

Re: HOW MANY GIGS PER WEEK.
How long is a piece of string?
Are you trying to do this full time or part time? Most of the work is weekends.
Gigs vary - a birthday is much different than a full-day festival.
Busy periods I may have 5 different places to be on weekends and 3-5 during the week - but I work in theatre so will be doing make-up 3-5 nights a week, 3 weeks per run.
Slow periods are seasonal but I have theatre and my other services to fill the months when face painting jobs drop off.

Re: HOW MANY GIGS PER WEEK.
Linework. Linework. Linework. Cookie break to honor famous Canadian fesspainter (sic). Linework. Linework. Linework.
At a convention class with the Wolfe Brothers once, they did their amazing art with a tiny laptop case of twelve round cakes (some of them made up as splits).
Less is more. Get the fundamental paints (many threads on this forum about that) and then, focus on making the art shine!
Have fun!!!

Re: HOW MANY GIGS PER WEEK.
Always break for cookies. It's essential. Like air.

Re: HOW MANY GIGS PER WEEK.
that should be a bumper sticker! "i break for cookies".
with a play on words, "break" instead of "brake". and where's the cookie emoticon?!
