What DFX to order? Empty What DFX to order?

Post by Flourishing Faces Sun Mar 23, 2014 2:11 am

Hi everyone.
I'm thinking of ordering some DFX from a supplier in USA that ships to Australia. I'm wondering if there are any colours or split cakes that ye would recommend?
I've picked the Bronze colour and the Gold so far.
What do ye think?

Dear Flourishing Faces:
It is so funny...
Diamond F/X and TAG are made in the same factory in China. I order Australian-distributed TAG when I can!
Both the Bronze and Gold are pretty good. I adore TAG Metallic Green. Great for Green Lantern, Dragons, ain't split cakes for leaves, snakes.
I did try to trade my husband for some fake Diamond F/X to Shannon Fennell. I informed Shannon that Tim is a terrific dancer and a great parallel Parker and she would not go for the trade....which is a great thing considering I never informed him about the swap.

Fessy, you can keep your husband, as I prefer my quiet life, but I would like to offer you an aging but well-roofed house, a maintenance-free zoysia lawn, and three large garbage pails (two with intact lids) in exchange for some of that Australian-generated paint. If you take possession quickly, I will even throw in an unused Jack LaLanne juicer. And some cookie crumbs and a vacuum cleaner.

If you are on a budget:
I would order the TAG 50g two colour splits to double your choice of colours without doubling the price. (also I love the TAG rectangular containers...perfect for sponges.
All are TAG suggestions as these are distributed in Australia:
White
Black
Neon Yellow (cut in half & placed beside yellow)
Yellow
Neon Orange (cut in half & placed beside Orange)
Orange
Red
Pink
Purple
Blue
Neon Green (cut in half & placed beside Green)
Green
Gold
Old Gold
Silver
TAG Carnival Rainbow Base Blender

I would lean toward the darker, more vibrant colours, as you can always lighten up with the addition of white, or pearlize with the addition of metallic white.

This list is not finished. This is the basic list of what I would have purchased in the beginning, if I had to start over. I bought so many colours that I just don't use very much.

I really like TAG. I really like Diamond F/X, too. Use whichever is more available in your area.

I hope our Gold Coast painters can jump in and guide you as to what is available locally.

I wholeheartedly agree with Lisa! My first big order was tag 50g 2 colour splits. The master plan is to use those empty cases for BYO rainbow cakes once they start getting low.... I pretty much loathe round containers for rainbow cakes!!

I would also add one or two one strokes.... Like a TAG berry and dragon. You could alternatively get the paradise prisma cake "fleur" which can be used like two one strokes (one for the flower, one for the leaf) and any number of designs (green side is okay for dragons and snakes, leaves, green fish, a monster, red side is good for flowers, princess crowns, etc). I find that, starting out, one strokes really add a depth and "wow!" Factor to your designs, building up confidence that may have taken a WHILE otherwise Smile

Thanks ladies.

I already have lots of Tag and Wolfe and some Cameleon that I have bought locally.
There's fortunately no shortage of suppliers available for these brands which I'm grateful for .

I want to get some DFX to try them out and I liked the look of their metallics and rainbow cakes.

There's not much of their metallics and rainbow cakes suppliers available in Australia. I came across a supplier of DFX in the USA that has reasonable shipping for Oz.
Hence the query for DFX.

Thanks Luz.
Is it the basic black and white that you use?
How do you find the opacity?
I've been looking for a white that doesn't need to
be too thick to paint over other colours
without the bass colour mixing in.
I like the look of spring time and waterfall split cakes.
Have you used the 30g split before?

I use DFX for white and black exclusively, I just like them better than other brands. I have tried some of their other solids and not been excited (red, yellow) but have used several splits and 1-stroke cakes from them and the vibrancy is fantastic (the green 1-strokes are especially bright, but a high stainer without a solid white underbase). My kit is mainly 1-strokes, and I have a mix of TAG and DFX in there, some homemade, some pre-done.

I use the silver DFX mixed with a little black Snazaroo to lay down a base for robots. Looks nice, and the black lets you vary the intensity.

Thanks Tanya and JJJJJ.
I'm going to try out the black and white and get a couple of the metallic.
I like the Spring Time and Small Waterfall in the 30g and the large Caribbean so I might order them also.
Thanks again ladies for the advice.
Your a great bunch  Laughing
