Post by Kris5115 Mon Jan 13, 2014 1:52 pm

For Christmas I received an ice fishing pole case that I have been transforming into a face painting case.  I love how it is turning out:

I am loving my new kit. I saw that someone had added storage under their paints for sponges, gems and such and I am thinking I may do that too, rather than putting them on top of the paints. No rush for that though.

Thanks! I do suppose that ice fishing cases are a regional thing. That being said, they may go on clearance when the season ends.

I took out the egg carton foam and lined the inside with indoor-outdoor carpet. I stitched the elastic to the top piece of carpet to hold the brushes and used my glue gun to get the carpet to stick to the case. I put the hook side of Velcro tape on my paints (and other stuff) and it sticks to the carpet. Just throw my bag of sponges on top and I'm ready to go.

It is a piece of paper in a protector sleeve that has holes along the side (intended to go into a 3-ring binder).  From the holes I have a yarn loop.  The kid who is last in line wears the "sign" like a necklace and gets an extra special design for helping.

Would it be too much trouble to share the dimensions of the case for us? (H/W/L)? And also, if it's not a trade secret, where you bought it?

It is 36" x 12" x 5" and I got it from my parents for Christmas but I know my dad bought it from Fleet Farm. It had egg carton foam inside which I removed and replaced with indoor/outdoor carpet. I have sticky velcro on the bottom of my paints which stick to the carpet.

Very clever! I know some people would prefer having the paints flush with the lip of the case, and construct a compartment underneath for sponges etc... do you find that the lip bothers you when you're working a gig? Or do you appreciate that maybe little ones will have less of a chance to touch your stuff? Smile

Dont'cha love Daddies like that!

Beautifully organized! Isn't it wonderful to be set up & broken down so quickly?

I sometimes wish my case were like yours (a foot smaller & that much lighter, when I am tired after a long gig & have to heave-ho it into the car), but I would miss the wheels...

It is smaller (and lighter) than most gun cases and is barely big enough but I'm also glad that it isn't bigger. It is so fast to set up and put away.

I have thought about adding a compartment under the paints. I think it wouldn't be too hard to do and I'd just put the existing carpet on top of the compartment. Right now I can just put light things like my sponges and such on top of the towel that is on top of the paints. I might still put in a compartment but for now I still think it is great.

I use one of those super thin plastic cutting boards (almost like a plastic place mat) to cover my paints before the black towel (that I still like for a nice professional look). The towel also absorbs any drips left in the water bucket--or like last gig, I put my spritzer away not realizing it wasn't shut tight & the towel saved my paint. I slip the plastic under the case when I set up--super easy.

That is a great idea! I was thinking of using an old plastic cutting board for the lid of the compartment, if I decide to make one someday.

Thanks! I found a thin plastic placemat at Walmart for $.94 that I can put on top of my paints. It is just the right size. :-)
