Rubbing alcohol removes sharpie from wood without removing the finish (useful for those of you with small kiddos!!), so you might try it on the practice head. I just ordered mine from Wimex after seriously contemplating buying from Silly Farm. I am so glad I found this thread first! Incredible what they are charging.

Re: Practice Heads
I used EVERYTHING to get the stains out of my Wimex head (alcohol, OxyClean, ReDuran, Goo Gone, bleach, lotion, oils, etc.... I mean EVERYTHING). And nothing worked well. The stains faded a bit, but nothing worked well enough that I could use my head for display board pics. I bought new shells from Wimex (super cheap) and just make sure to use hair spray. The hair spray trick REALLY works, but we need to be careful with dipping the now paint-and-hair-spray filled paintbrush back into our paints - it would not be good for the hairspray ingredients to be put onto our customers' skin.

Re: Practice Heads
I clean my Wimex practice head with pure acetone.
But beware it makes the surface a bit soft but it recovered again.
You can also use non-acetone nail polish remover pads.
Definitely a success !!!!!!

Re: Practice Heads
Does anyone know if the Wimex heads are the proface heads or proface 2? I got a proface 2 from silly farm a few years back, and have since used the proface ones at a few classes. Defiantly like the proface better than the proface 2.
Re: Practice Heads
The Wimex head that I have is nothing like the Proface that I had used...nothing like it, but maybe someone else has more experience with them. As cheap as the Wimex heads are, in my opinion they were worth it, as it does what I need it for which is let me paint it =).
Acetone - fingernail polish w/acetone works, but if you want straight acetone we get ours at Lowes or Home Depot. We use it on one of our bounce houses where the painted black on the vinyl bleeds during hot summer months.

If you have a "Sally's Beauty supply" store by you ... then you can get 100% acetone there. A 32oz bottle is about $6.00 (of course best if used with cotton balls/swabs).
Re: Practice Heads
I just lucked out I was able to grab three women and two men practice heads today, all for $25. plus a flat iron. Great deal!
4 are soft vinyl feeling and the 5th feels more plastic.
Is a Mr. Clean sponge a good way to clean them?
My daughter and I are looking forward to practicing soon.

Re: Practice Heads
Just an FYI, I found a bottle of 100% acetone at a rite aid (pharmacy) up the block. In the nail section. Cost about 4 bucks.
Re: Practice Heads
I like to keep mine clean b/c the black and darker colours stain so bad, it is hard to see the practice over the old lines. Looks like ca-ca.
I also use mine for display photos. I never have a camera on a job and my daughter only allows me to paint her as a pink kitty.
Sooooooooooooo...........currently I am using nail polish remover. Make sure you wear plastic gloves that are meant to withstand solvents.
I work at a building supply store so we carry paint, acetone and the proper gloves. Solvents can be harmful through ingestion, absorbtion and injection.
So, be careful when using them.

Re: Practice Heads
When I bought my head I received a little note advising to clean wth a Chux Magic Eraser with a small amount of eucalyptus oil on it, works perfectly. I use DFX and have left my head painted for over a fortnight and it all came off without scrubbing or staining, even the blacks and greens.
Re: Practice Heads
I picked up a few practice heads from a beauty school for free. If I hair spray them good before I work they do not stain but since they were free I don't really mind all that much if they do stain.
They all have funky short cuts but the hair is not what I wanted them for anyway.
