Sponging on tattoos? Empty Sponging on tattoos?

Post by Bast Tue Feb 28, 2012 5:45 pm

Got chatting at a market the other day and I was told about sponging tattoos. Similar technique to glitter/mica, a stencil that adheres to the skin, but then you use a type of ink and sponge it on. Glittery powders (like mica) can go over the top, they wash off before the black ink does. Less wastage then the air gun (same ink I guess?) and don't need power.

Has anyone heard/tried this? I'd love to know more.

I work at a place where they do airbrush tattoos and I do face painting, one day when the airbrush gun stopped working i tried to sponge on the stencil with the ink and my sponges, it actually worked ok, its very messy but if you figured it out it would work ok. i am not sure how long it lasted as i didn't see the person i did it on after that but it looked ok. i was able to wash the ink out of my sponge too, i though it would stain forever.

I can't imagine how it could be less wastage - it only takes a few drops with an airbrush, and you don't even have to use stick on stencils (so you can reuse them hundreds of times)....

you really have to use more ink with the sponge, with the airbrush it takes 3 seconds and a tiny spray of ink, then you just dunk the used stencils in a bucket of rubbing alcohol and wipe them clean and use them over and over again. but with an airbrush you also need electricity and a air compressor. I could see how sponging could be practical, it would be easier with stick on stencils but it would waste stencils too.

I'm only assuming the ink is the same. But I know that although the stencils were adhesive they were reusable. They were way less adhesive then the glitter tat ones I use, and came in a book, designed to be reused.

I keep meaning to ask more about them as he doesn't being them out anymore when I'm there (one of the market organisers)

I believe it was Glimmer that had the nail polish bottles of ink at a convention. I got the black and the boys loved it. I left it at the beach, I'll get it out and check when I go down tomorrow. Brushed it on the stencil when doing glitter tatts and then some I put glitter on. The glitter comes off first then the ink. The kids at the hotel said it lasted about a week and they were in the pool and ocean the whole time. Hope this helps. sunny

Sweethavenarts that's it! Colorini! But I do believe it was sold at a Glimmer table at one convention. Thanks, now I don't have to go hunt it up. sunny

Yes is COLORINI, I am doing it with a sponge, what I don't like is you have to brush the sponge and them apply to the skin, I am thinking using a brush like the one that comes in the white corrector.
