So I've been researching the topics, like a good little newbie.......holy cow. Holy. Batman. Shocked There are a lot of options.

To say I've overwhelmed would be putting it lightly.

I'm guessing I'll need two different types. One for PPF one for events where I'm doing hourly. I just have no idea which type to choose.

So I guess what I'll ask is there any one type that didn't work for you or you wouldn't do again?

TIA~~~~~

I like mixing black with a metallic white. That way when you do your outline, and angry eyebrows they really stand out. Or using a blue black as a base has the same effect.

Not really sure that's what she was asking about....

But yeah! I once used an A-frame outside my booth with a collage of different designs I use. It was awkward to carry, got knocked over all the time EVEN when we put stakes on the bottom, and then it encourage a lot of people to just congregate directly outside the front of my booth... not allowing much room from my line which forced people INTO my booth. Did not work at all for me. Some people may have had better luck, but I'll never use it again.

bahahaha clearly i didnt keep reading...welllp. in that case I like banners for ppf events, and I can usually hook them right to my canopy. For birthday parties I use a book for smaller ones, and a board for larger ones with a larger easel stand to prop it up...sorry for the former post:/

For parties and events, I use a telescoping rod that clips to my fatmax. I then velcro my pics to a black foam board that clips to the rod. It keeps the pictures where both the clients and I can see them. The rod then telescopes down to fit in a small bag with the clip. I bungee the foam board to my fatmax when leaving.

You can see it in this pic although it's actually clipped to the table we were using at this event:

I tried at different times using a binder (which always walked off) and laminated pages (same problem).

For festivals I use tall banners on the outside of the tent, and then a picture board inside the tent where both the clients and I can see it.

I'm still working on mine... And it's been months! I want it to be perfect...

I have a small binder for birthday partys, in my area birthday parties are only small so I can keep an eye on where the book is. It has my disclaimers and model releases in it too. For bigger events I plan on using a large piece of fabric with pictures velcroed onto it so it can roll up and I can change up the photos when I get different designs/better photographs.
But I'm still trying to work out how to hang it... My tent is horrible and I don't like it much...

I use display boards for both festivals and parties. I use art canvasses that I get at Michael's. They're lightweight and sturdy (a wooden frame with canvas stretched over it.) I staple gun black glitter felt to them.

My pictures are laminated with Velcro on the back, and they cling nicely to the black felt.

I lean the board up against something at a party (or even tie it by running a cord through the wooden framing on the back). I like to keep them at ground level, so the children can see their options close up and at eye level.

I have never had a picture removed (though I'm sort of new, so I'm sure that day is coming!) Still, I've done hundreds of faces by now, and still no photo gremlins Surprised)

I use an easel that has a clamp at the top to hold a drawing board. I cover the board with colorful paper then tape the photos on. My easel has telescoping legs so I can put it on a table top or stand it up on the ground. Now that I read this thread, I may try one of these other suggestions. Very Happy

Thank you!

I had researched ALL those topics! That's why I'm SOO overwhelmed! LOL I think I've narrowed it down to two choices for myself. Either a printed banner type like Perry and Angie A or something like Ladye Jayde or Barb where I can swap out the pictures. I need to make a decision and find a laminator. (I'm driving hubs CRAZY! lol! )

I have a laminator that I got at Costco for $20....BEST (non paint) FACE PAINTING BIZ SUPPLY I'VE EVER PURCHASED! I recommend a secondary purchase though if you get a laminator...get a corner rounder punch...those suckers are sharp when you cut them!
I honestly make a new board for pretty much every event...in fact I'm getting started again on one for this weekend right now. I use a black foam core board and laminated pictures (all the same size, all square, all cropped to look like a large polaroid) and I use glue dots to attach them. I'll upload a pic when I'm done with this one. I have a collection of boards accumulating in my craft room closet, but I have a few to choose from if I have a last minute gig (do I want quick faces or more impressive 'deluxe' designs today?).

Stacia, I do pretty much the same thing Smile But I use 2 foam boards and velcro to attach the pics. I have a "quick designs" board and a board with more complicated designs, but I do have other pics I can switch out in case I have a theme party to do.

Might sound silly, but I have yet to use a display board or picture. In the beginning, I did have some flyers that said "Kitten, puppy, butterfly, etc. Now, I just talk to the kiddos and it suprisingly goes very fast to make a decision. I get to try out a lot of different designs, accomodate kiddos funny requests and keep boredom at bay Very Happy I suppose at some point I may have to do a board, but I honestly hope not

I just use banners I had made up with vista print.
I don't say anywhere that these designs are specifically what we are painting that day although it is a very useful guide for those that are choosing. We often end up creating our own 'similiar' versions or taking requests.

On my banner we cover pretty much all the basic faces. I know the problem with a banner is not being able to change images but I don't mind ordering a new one every couple of years. Infact I have just ordered my second banner. I only needed to change a couple of faces I wasn't so happy with and I added cheaper and more pricy designs to the board and put them in an order so the more expensive ones are grouped together at the top and my quick faces in the bottom section.

It is so quick and easy to set up with a banner stand and always looks professional.

I do occasionally have a black board which I just stick photos to for special events although it is much more complicated to set up.

Birthday Parties I don't usually have a board or anything, although if requested I bring a mini version of our banner (a small lawn sign from vista print) or I have a photo with the same designs I can stick in a photo clip on my table.

You can see me smaller board in these photos, I usually don't have it on display at these events. My other painter, who I am still teaching likes to have it on her for quick reference for all those faces she doesn't paint as often.

For sure if it is your first DON'T get a banner with printed photos on it, If I had the choice I would get the sign holder Daizy has with a banner with my info and POCKET sleeves, It is so important to have the option of change or add things on the way, sometimes the design you love, kids never choose, or you get a often request of a design you don't have etc. In my case I keep changing my pics to a better ones, my daughter is my model and boys don't like the designs I paint or her (I had to put a hat to make her look more masculine), so I am so happy I can change the pics.

Daizy- if you see this- I was wondering if you have run into much issue with having a black tent? Lately, I have seen a lot of shows putting in clauses that all tents must be white only -Must be square- (Must be same must conform!- At an art show??? Really?) and was curious if you ever ran into it as an issue.

I have a circular purple one that I prefer to use but always wonder if I will run into trouble with it.
