Making a new website....and more.
I know I haven't been on in a while..I suck:/ sorry. I have been a lurker..I know I admit it..terrible. Well I haven't settled just yet, and life has been crazy I am not even sure how I am even writing this post just two minutes ago my son dumped all the change out of my wallet...yup that kind of day!
Annnyyywaayyyy...I thought since I have moved I wanted to revamp and do a whole brand new beginning. I already ran into a problem. I started making the website through intuit. Ok now here is where it starts. I feel like anything I write someone will say I took it from someone else. I know "copying" has been a huge deal lately, and that is the last thing I want to do!!! I am having such trouble with the words..I am seriously considering not writing anything and just leaving a gallery, blog, rates, contact info....
On a side note I ordered paints from metina, and they are coming tomorrow. This girl is super excited.
Thanks for listening;)

Re: Making a new website....and more.
I'm probably get beat up about this comment but I don't think wording in website is what everyone is crazy about it's designs. If you don't word it exactly like another painter in your area. Except for a few of us most aren't professional writers so if you see something worded the way you want it doesn't hurt to ask them if you can use it. If your not in direct competition why be uptight about wording.
(when you all beat me up be gentle it's my birthday!)

Happy birthday, Diva! And I agree with you, it's difficult not to copy the words from other painters when you're writing about safety or promoting your business IMHO

Re: Making a new website....and more.
It's just that I have seen in the passed year a lot of fights on here about everything from designs to wording to phrases. I think everyone has a sharing limit, and I do not want to step on toes...I have been really taking time in tweaking basic designs to make them my own lately...I wasn't posting to start a whole big thing...I was really just asking if I could leave it with minimal words...no introduction paragraphs??
Re: Making a new website....and more.
I really don't see a big deal about wording as long as it's not from someone else in your area.
Face Painters don't really advertising wording as much as their name or face or body work in a gallery. We all know you as Britty. When I see your work, I only think of you and your name I don't think of a slogan

Re: Making a new website....and more.
In my personal experience, when I go onto a website for something like face painting, I am not looking for long stories about personal experience. I am looking for information on how to book, pictures that prove the person knows what they are doing, what they offer, etc..
In most cases it is going to be a very busy parent looking for a face painter, and when they find one, I don't really think that they are going to take a second glance at the personal statement or introduction on the first page (unless, of course, it says something crazy like "I am a demon worshiper, and I plan on sacrificing your children to the dark underlord" or something like that).
A good suggestion that was once given to me: if someone has to scroll down to read something, they lose interest. So make it short and sweet. Maybe not an intro paragraph, but a sentence or two. You don't want to come across as curt or impolite, but you don't want your customers to have to spend a half an hour reading a single page either.

Re: Making a new website....and more.
It is still a work in progress and there really isnt much on there yet but you will get the feel for it...
Re: Making a new website....and more.
Thanks you all it's been a great birthday! Britty when I hit the link for your site all I got was a vistaprint ad. Make sure if your competition's website is lacking something important to the customer you put it in yours. I noticed a possible competitor on my local Craig's list and when I went to their site I found they were really balloon twisters that also did face painting and had no pictures of their face painting work. I posted an ad saying come to our website and see what we do. They need to know what you charge and how to get a hold of you and see what you do all the rest is just icing on the cake.
Re: Making a new website....and more.
The new site is brittydesigns.com
I think you might have gone to the old one. I was not liking vistaprint...thank you for all the advice and I am glad you auf such a great birthday

Re: Making a new website....and more.
I thought your landing page was great! Simple, colorful and pics had emotion. Good job! I didnt see a vista ad? Happy bday Diva!
Re: Making a new website....and more.
I love the site so far!
I wouldn't worry too much about wording... People don't really care for it, they want to see prices, contact details and photographs of what you can do.
If you're worried about copying, make sure you don't use other people's photographs. If you like a design, paint it on someone and take your own photograph. That's absolutely fine.
If you like someone's wording about something, you could ask them if you can use it. Perry Noia has wording about fundraising that she doesn't mind people using. If you don't want to ask, change it. You can still use the basic outline.
I think what annoys people most on here about copying, is if people copy photographs or are copying wording that isn't true. For instance if they are claiming to use FDA compliant, child safe paints when all they're using is craft paints.
And also, don't copy wording from another painter in your area...
But I think your site is great, the first page captures your eye and has essential information! I think I might take a leaf out of your book and make sure I have my contact details on the first page of my website.
(And you might want to change your website on you FPF profile, the one on there is the vistaprint one.)

Re: Making a new website....and more.
I would never use someone else's pictures...mine are good enough haha. Thanks for the heads up about my Facebook page...I forgot to switch it there. I have a pretty good idea of what I'm going to do now..I will update you guys when its done...thanks for all your input!!
Re: Making a new website....and more.
I like it so far! The only thing I would change is taking the ".com" out of the title at the top. I think you only need your business name there.
Re: Making a new website....and more.
Very nice! I love the black background! I always worry about too simple, but yours looks nice and classy.
It would be nice if the facebook address was clickable, but I do see the facebook button above so it's all good.
I need to make a website! Something for my to do list in the summer! LOL

Re: Making a new website....and more.
I really like it with the ".com" in the name...im really liking it lately. The website only has a facebook button, but I like it I think it gives a cleaner look...websites are always such a pain cottonkandy put it off as long as you can, and make sure you have a lot of patience, because if you are meticulous like me (and I think you are lol you will never be able to decide on anything like me!! hahahaha
Re: Making a new website....and more.
I use to have two online websites with my old biz, but I took out the time to pay someone else to do them for me! LOL
I'm sure I'll be the one to do it this time so I'll put it off as long as I can!
