Post by AshleyMarie727 Wed Jan 25, 2012 7:26 am

Morning Ladies,

So i really need everyones advice/opionins the past few days i have been wakeing up between 3am and 4am and am restless i cant fall back asleep to save my life! its more so in my legs that i cant sit still and they are a little achey but im not sure its really frustrating when i have to be at work by 7 and i can get a full night's rest so i usually end up waking up and finding something to get into around the house until 5am when the gym opens i was told it could be restless leg syndrome but arent i to yong for that? im not sure what to do at this point i just know its really starting to affect me more then i want it to. If anyone could help me as to what to do, maybe see a doctor but then again i only have insurance for another week since i start my new job next week and my old job's insurance will cancel out.l Any advice is really appreciated i just need help i need to feel rested again!

Thanks everyone so much!!

Happy Painting!

Make sure you have no caffine- no coffee, tea, soda, etc.

If you have any stress or things on your mind, about an hour before bed, write them out and sit quietly focusing on your breathing- Make an agreement with your higher self, that you will address those things in the AM and then you are freeer to rest.

Also try Tylenol or Advil PM. I have found these to be very helpful with restlessness but won't really leave you too groggy in the morning. Try one to start and then go to two. It might also help with your legs.

Go see your doc as soon as you can.

if there's one thing I've learned, it's that you are never too young. I would suggest seeing a Naturopathic Doctor only because I have had far better success with them figuring out the REAL problem. They examine ALL aspects of your life, diet and symptoms rather than just the one you came in for. It can be expensive, but if you're going to have to pay for something anyway...

I definitely think you should see a doctor just to be on the safe side. Take advantage of your last few days with the previous employer's insurance. Also don't go to a general practitioner because they give you vague answers. Try a doctor specializing in sleep disorders and conditions of that nature. flower

I get this occaisionally, and find that if I go for a long walk before bed it helps a lot. Also, examine anything that might be different in your life lately. Schedule, food, medications, vitamins, relationships...anything.

It happens to me if I have a glass of wine at night, don't know why, didn't used to. Maybe try a detox (I do an occasional "master cleanse". It's cheap--lemon, grade be maple syrup & cayenne in water & always sets me right again. You can google it).

Try ear plugs too. My MIL was complaining about being up and weird hours of the night, till she realized that when the fridge would cycle she could hear it and it would wake her up. My mom gets woken up by the neighbor leaving at 4am unless she wears her ear plugs.

The legs thing might be from a prescription you are taking that you wouldn't think that would mess with you...like I know of a common UTI medication that can literally make your hamstring snap...weird huh?

As far as falling back asleep, I have this weird thing I do. I spray Grapefruit Jasmine spray on my pillow and that little bit of sensory distraction will let my brain shut off and I can fall asleep....very weird I know. My problem is that they stopped carrying it at Bath & Body Works and I'm almost out. I almost cried when I thought I'd left it at a hotel...but it turned up this month. Yay!

You might try lavendar if you don't like grapefruit, but grapefruit does it for me. My friend came back from a fancy hotel chain that started infusing their pillows with grapefruit. She loved it so much she bought one!

I also agree with those nice foamy earplugs. I'll sleep through the night when hubby is away. I think I'm being woke up and I don't even know it. You'd have to have a good alarm system in place though. You could try it on the weekends and see if it helps.

I feel for you. It effects your whole demeanor.

Serious Question.. Empty Re: Serious Question..

Post by Miss Ronnie Wed Jan 25, 2012 7:33 pm

I have had restless leg syndrome since my very early 20s... only way back then in the dark ages back they didn't have a medical term for it so I always just called it the "Heebie-Jeebies"... It is quite bothersome but I had to learn to live with it because I am not going to take a medication with a big long list of possibly damaging side effects if i don't have to. I cannot sit in my chair at night to watch TV without having to constantly... and I mean CONSTANTLY... keep moving my feet all around. It only affects me from the knees down. I'm not sure if what you have is the same thing and if it persists you should most definitely get yourself checked out.
Hopefully it is only a temporary thing and you will be back to normal in a day or two!!!

Funny you should say that - I was going to say that in Chinese Medicine that time of the morning is liver time - when I've been drinking too many dinner wines I get the 3am wake ups. Also when I am dealing with angry stuff that maybe I'm suppressing. (they see anger as residing in the liver).

It's funny how much can be fixed with correct diet, lifestyle, excercise and attention to psychological and spiritual well-being. If you are really concerned I'd see a professional too just to be sure!

If it were leg cramps I'd say take 2 calcium, magnesium & zinc caplets, (I buy mine from WalMart) and if it takes more than 2, then take 3. My husband and mother do this and it helps alot. I just don't know about leg restlessness. Maybe you could google it for home remedies.
And what JBM said about anger residing in the liver, I've read that in the Bible somewhere, a friend of mine pointed that out for me once. Whatever you do, good luck.

I'm not suprised at the timing. New job = big change in your life. Lots of good advice here, but listen to Leapinglizards & try it! I've heard this many times & seen it work. As a famous & much loved surgeon Dr. Ishihara once said, "...can't hurt, could help." It only costs you paper, pen & a few minutes!
