Re: Pinterest?
I am new to this board, and just this week to pinterest.
I've been lurking here for a couple of months. Just LOVING the inspiration and the designs that I am seeing.
Thanks for mentioning pinterest. I can keep up with some ideas and properly credit the ones that I might use.

Re: Pinterest?
I was really excited about this site until I tried to make my account... and I need a Facebook timeline to do it? Why!?
I hate the new timeline, and don't want to use it until I absolutely have to. Very frustrating.

Re: Pinterest?
lol I love Pinterest! I thought everyone had know about it but me. lol I had to wait about 2weeks before I got email back from them. but you can still check out pins while waiting. It is very addicting and I have so many projects waiting for me to get to them now and omg there was so many amazing pins for the holidays geez lol it's overwhelming. I can easily spend a whole day going back and for between tabs of this site and Pinterest. ignorance is bliss but our creative minds shouldn't be deprived. lol enjoy!

Re: Pinterest?
I like pinterest... not addicted or anything. BUT since I know how paranoid people on here are about their photos being "stolen" (as if posting something online didn't mean giving it away anyway) you should read this article before posting your pictures on there http://www.livinglocurto.com/2012/02/letter-bloggers-pinterest/

Re: Pinterest?
I guess if I really wanted to, I could make a Twitter account and log-in with that.
But seriously? I'd have to sign up to an entirely different site just to gain access to Pinterest? I don't know if it's worth it... all the jumping-through-hoops just to have an account is annoying.

Re: Pinterest?
No, you can sign in with an email address and a password...I have three login options and FB and Twitter are only two of the options...the email and password is the third. Does it not offer you that option?
Re: Pinterest?
It seems like I only have the Facebook or Twitter option. In my email it says:
Then when I follow the link, those are the only two options.
You're in!
I'm excited to invite you to join Pinterest, a social catalog. I can't wait to have you join our little community.
To create your Pinterest account, click the link below and push the blue "FB Connect" button. You can also join with Twitter.

Re: Pinterest?
I really love pinterest and use it frequently, but I came across this article tonight....definitely some heavy food for thought from this article: http://ddkportraits.com/2012/02/why-i-tearfully-deleted-my-pinterest-inspiration-boards/
"In several places in Pinterest’s Terms of Use, you, as the user, agree that you will not violate copyright law or any other laws. And then there is this:
“YOU ACKNOWLEDGE AND AGREE THAT, TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, THE ENTIRE RISK ARISING OUT OF YOUR ACCESS TO AND USE OF THE SITE, APPLICATION, SERVICES AND SITE CONTENT REMAINS WITH YOU.” (yes, this is in ALL CAPS right in their TOU for a reason).
And then, there is this:
“you agree to defend, indemnify, and hold Cold Brew Labs, its officers, directors, employees and agents, harmless from and against any claims, liabilities, damages, losses, and expenses, including, without limitation, reasonable legal and accounting fees, arising out of or in any way connected with (i) your access to or use of the Site, Application, Services or Site Content, (ii) your Member Content, or (iii) your violation of these Terms.”
This “defend and indemnify” stuff means that if some photographer out there decides that he or she does not want you using that photogs images as “inspiration” or otherwise and decides to sue you and Pinterest over your use of that photog’s images, you will have to hire a lawyer for yourself and YOU will have to hire a lawyer for Pinterest and fund the costs of defending both of you in court. Not only that, but if a court finds that you have, in fact, violated copyright laws, you will pay all damages assessed against you and all damages assessed against Pinterest. OUCH. Oh, but it gets better. Pinterest reserves the right to prosecute you for violations. Basically, Pinterest has its keester covered and have shifted all of the risk to you. Smart of them, actually since the courts are still deciding whether the site owner or the user should be ultimately responsible. Rather than wait for the decision, they have contractually made you the responsible one. And you agreed. (And by “you” I clearly mean “we”)."

Re: Pinterest?
Ack!
Honestly, I find the sight very positive for everyone. I mean, I would be very flattered if my art or any/all things I do online were posted on Pinterest. It's advertising. No one is stealing or claiming their art work. It's a way to voice something we see online that we like and want to show others. It's an advantage! It's free advertising! I did see Pam's purple butterfly on Karen Owens Pinterest
It should be a win win, but I'm sure there will be jerks out there trying to take advantage of the situtation. It's like that commercial of the baby saying he doesn't want anymore money. I'm sure someone will say they don't want free advertising for their creation or website. Ugg!!!
Most of the time, the first thing that happens with a lawyer is a cease and desist letter. If they don't then they would take further action.

Re: Pinterest?
For the sake of your own work, watermark your photos in case people change the description and your name gets taken off of it.... for the sake of other people's work, I wouldn't worry about it too much.
The very nature of the internet means that everything you post can potentially be taken... right click and "save as.." ... if you put it on the web, it's public. Protect your own work with watermarking and be flattered that people like it enough to re-pin it. Could someone still re-crop your picture to get around your watermark, sure, but you can't spend your life worrying about that kind of thing.

Re: Pinterest?
I'm a pinterest fan too... I'm planning a wedding and it has made finding inspiration INSANELY easy! Want ideas for making a sign post... just search for it and you'll get 50 pictures of signposts people have made! Bouquet reference? Done. It's awesome. I don't think face painting is super huge on there though... I've come across some, and seen some of my pics pinned on peoples boards (which is why I have my business name watermarked on all my online photos). I love the concept, and the ease of use. I've found so many ideas (probably too many ideas!) on there just from spending 15-20 minutes at a time browsing. And then I can pull it up on my phone too so if I want to show someone a pic or remember it later I don't have to be at the one computer. Just another website designed to make our lives easier/more complicated.
Re: Pinterest?
My kids are into it. I've stayed away for fear I'd stop doing laundry, eating & showering... but the temptation is there
Just curious, Is the work credited to the person who did it?

Re: Pinterest?
Yikes, I just read the Pinterest info... My suspiousions were correct & I will not be posting others photos on any pinup board, etc. I don't want to be liable for anything.
Re: Pinterest?
When you click on an image that was pinned by someone it takes you back to the website from where it was pinned. It's a handy feature.
BTW, you don't have to put any of your pictures on there, anyone can see a pic anywhere on the internet (except from facebook apparently) and pin it to their board. Then it's public. So if you have a photo posted on your website someone can click their little "pin it" button and save that image to their pin board for reference. Or even from this site it would work.

Re: Pinterest?
Because I don't already spend enough time on there. This looks like it may be a good tool to help manage boards.
Pinerly
I love pinterest. I find all sorts of craft things to sew and inspiration for photography and face painting.

Re: Pinterest?
So can it be used for anything other than an inspiration folder?
I mean, from what I can tell of it, it's just a personal use thing and not really good for a lot of promotion. I've looked into it from the scope of the 4 businesses I have and so far, it seems more akin to a personal journal over a promotional tool.
Google/Bing and I do fine finding stuff and my hub is AMAZING at it, so beyond that, what's it good for other than everyone saying it's an addictive time waster (and OMG I do not need another one of those...I have entirely too many already! lol )?

I was invited a few weeks ago and before I even had anything on it I had followers
It's not meant for self promotion. I like giving credit to others and it's a great way to source the inspiration origins.
I haven't a lot up there yet, but I'll be adding lots soon now that I've got the hang of it's purpose. You'll see some wedding ideas and party ideas up there primarily.

Enjoy!
