Age limits on face paints?
Hey guys, I'm having a bit of trouble here.
I just ordered a huge amount of face paints and when I got them I noticed that they all had age limits on the upper corner of the packaging. Some say '6 and up', '12 and up', and '15 and up'.
Why is this? I can't find it out anywhere on the internet and I called the company and all they said was, "We recommend that you don't use it on children below that age."
I really just want to know why and what can I do to avoid buying more face paints that have age limits?
I'm thinking about getting Mehron's Fantasy FX paints or their Liquid Face Paint but it says nothing about age there either.
HELP!

Re: Age limits on face paints?
What's the name of your paints? Professional face painting makeup doesn't have an age limit. Professional paints are FDA approved and should be safe on all skin types.

Re: Age limits on face paints?
Oh, you got suckered. I'm sad to say that I wouldn't put that anywhere near a paying customer. (nor any non-paying ones)
I recommend TAG, DFX, and Wolfe. I hear Paradise is great, if you can handle the scent. And Snazaroo is decent for bases.

Re: Age limits on face paints?
It looks like you ordered dollar store paints... I really wouldn't recommend them. Most people on the forums use professional-quality paint, most of which is very affordable, if you factor in how many uses you'll get out of it! Some of our favourite brands are DiamondFX, TAG, Paradise, Wolfe, Snazaroo and Mehron. A good site to look at some different brands is http://www.sillyfarm.com, as well as the shop on this forum! There are TONS of resources on the forum to help you decide which paints are best for you, just use the search function to look for them.
Good luck! If you decide to get some high-quality paints - you will LOVE them.

Would not recommend the Mehron liquid. I got black and white thinking it would work for dots and lines but the coverage isn't great. Live and learn.

What do you guys think of Mehron's Fantasy FX paints? Would those be good for young kids? (I'm a student and on a real budget so those are the ones I'm probably going for )

Re: Age limits on face paints?
It is not the cost of the tube or the package, it is the cost per application that is your real expense. Get a smaller appetizer of either snazaroo paints at Micheals (use a coupon) or get the Klutz face painting book with a coupon at Micheals-comes with a wolfe brothers appetizer pallet that has both wolfe white and black, and with the coupon you are way under 20 bucks. That will last and you will have good quality paint. It won't matter how litte you spend to get your paint if it is garbage to start with. The forum shop and silly farm both sell apetizer pallets in all the best brands, they go a long way. That is what you need.
Re: Age limits on face paints?
Is there a particular reason you'd prefer to use liquid paints?
I've never used them before, I've only used the pressed cakes, which I quite like. I imagine you'd go through the liquids a lot quicker than cakes.
You can still get some high-quality stuff on the cheap if you choose things wisely. My first face painting purchase was the Snazaroo jumbo 8 colour palette. It's on SillyFarm for $55 which isn't bad... another route you could go is get half-splits (two colours in one cake) of all the basic colours you need. So you could probably get away with only 4-5 splits but have the colour range you need. There are lots of TAG 50g splits in the forum shop.
Hope that helps!

Re: Age limits on face paints?
I'm a student (Well I was until a week ago) still on a budget, I use a lot of Snazaroo paint because it's the lowest price professional child-safe paint. I started with a Wolfe Essential Appetiser Palette with 12 colours, and it lasts a long time.
I've never used liquid paints (except once when I used the cream one's you bought, I had a huge rash on my face for weeks) but I would assume you'd go through them faster than cake paint...

Re: Age limits on face paints?
Definitely try the pressed cakes. That way you don't have to worry about a part of the design drying in time so u can go back in and do your line work and highlights.

Re: Age limits on face paints?
Don't feel so bad. My first professional grade paints were liquid- Ben Nye MagiColor. I felt like it was the biggest waste of money ever! Later I discovered Kryolan pressed cakes. so happy
