Know a Good Red?
I have been having a hard time finding a red I really like. I've been using DFX, but I find that it just doesn't go on as opaque as I'd like. I'd also like a darker, rusty red for blood (which I seem to find myself painting a lot). Any suggestions of brands/colors?
Re: Know a Good Red?
I like Snaz Classic for things like spiderman.
I personally found DFX and Wolfe reds too orange-y for my taste.

Amen, sister! Thanks for the suggestion. I'm not a huge Snaz fan, but maybe I'll give it a try.
Re: Know a Good Red?
I like Snaz red for Spiderman, it's bright and one of my Snaz's that hasn't melted to a gooey mess. But for a blood-red I prefer Paradise
Re: Know a Good Red?
TAG red is awesome, and yeah, I also love paradise red for a deeper richer colour.
Re: Know a Good Red?
Not a big fan of Snaz, but it's the only paint my local theatrical store sells. But the Snaz Classic Bright Red is the best red I've tried...
Re: Know a Good Red?
I love tag red - not the Tag pearl though the pearl has a sligh pink hue to it. but the red is very red. but I also have a snaz blood cake for that.
It seemed only fair I bring glitter for the girls and blood for the boys - and of course the boys and girls who like to mix it up.

I use Wolfe Red and love it! I think it's the most opaque Wolfe paint I've used. One swipe with a sponge and you have a vibrant amazing red! The only thing I have to compare it to is Snaz though, but I really like Wolfe red especially for Spiderman. When I do zombie faces I just put a black base for cuts and wounds then use red over/around it, and it produces a pretty good effect.
Re: Know a Good Red?
For a true red, I use snaz red. I also like their sparkle red. Not a big fan of snaz for most things.
If I need a darker red or blood I mix my reds with a little brown or black until I get the right shade, it takes only a few seconds.

I'm actually looking for a better red, too. I don't like TAG red, Snaz red is red but I don't think it covers all that great. I am going to give Wolfe Red a try.... BTW; For Spiderman, I use only red Starblend. It goes on super-duper fast and it's a good red color.
Re: Know a Good Red?
Kryolan makes great base cakes. They have 'dark red' and 'blood red" that are great reds...
Re: Know a Good Red?
This thread cracks me up!! Everyone has completely different opinions. Love my wolfe red.
Re: Know a Good Red?
I like Snaz for sponge work, and Wolfe is very nice for linework. What is this blood red? Blood in a bottle, sterilized for your face painting pleasure?

Think she is talking about snaz cake blood. Saw it on their website under special fx.
