My Big Chicken first approach to Spiderman....
Okay, so I have this thing about red but to do a spiderman 3/4 face, it's a requirement. So decided a couple of nights ago to give it a go...I was all guns-a-blazin' until I took the cap off of my Snaz Red. After much debating, I decided that pink is actually a derivative of red and ran with it. It was pretty much stress free until I got to the black part, but I got over it. The only thing is that I forgot what was said about Wolfe Black being potent and I think I've ruined my doll. Oh well, I guess I'll just use it for full face practice from now on...unless someone knows how to get the black staining out of her 'skin'. I think I'm going to forego using Wolfe black on any kids...especially since it went right through the Sparkle pink base!
This took sooooo long to do and I lost my focus after a while and forgot some dots. Hopefully I'll get better ...
I wanted to plant a spider on her face, but my spiders look more like something you'd peel off of a fly swatter more so that an actuall arachnid. There's an area I need a lot of help in...drawing something I loathe.
I wonder if it would be possible to convince little boys that the pink spider is so much cooler and more progressive. You know, help them to be secure in their burgeoning masculinity?

Re: My Big Chicken first approach to Spiderman....
So why are you afraid of red?
And it is nice face, by the way. )
91% alcohol helps take stuff off. You can also smear cooking oil on it. I think that works better than the alcohol (then I use the alcohol afterward). And then there is the magic eraser. And really, if it is just a practice head, a little stain here and there isn't such a big deal. Just slap some paint over it and pretend like it isn't there.

Re: My Big Chicken first approach to Spiderman....
I'm just afraid of the staining aspect of red...it just looks like it SHOULD stain. Red fruit juice stains my kids' tongues and lips...so it only stands to reason that a paint called Bright Red would stain a face. I have a LOT of quirks to work out...but I can't afford a head doctor at the moment.
I'm going to try the alcohol/oil combination. I think I have a magic eraser.
I just don't like my practice head looking so 'war beaten'. kwim?

Re: My Big Chicken first approach to Spiderman....
really, honestly... the red paint will not stain their face.... we all do tons of spiderman faces and the kids keep coming back for more and the parents don't throw a fit that "last time we couldn't get the red off"
Re: My Big Chicken first approach to Spiderman....
I find blue and green stain more.
Your design is really great! I love it!

Re: My Big Chicken first approach to Spiderman....
Thanks Glenda! But to be honest, I can't really call it "my" design since it's inspired by a culmination of different designs I've seen and picked apart. I have lots of wonderful (sometimes twisted) things in my head, but I can't seem to execute them without seeing someone else's take on it first. So this is my mutt.
Re: My Big Chicken first approach to Spiderman....
Snaz red has never stained anyone I've done - me included.
Green, yellow, blue, yes, but not red.
That is a great Spidermask BTW... so... what is the problem? If you can do that so well a full face version IN RED should be a snap!!

Re: My Big Chicken first approach to Spiderman....
I'm going to need a list of the staining colors...I already goofed up with the Wolfe Black! I read on the uk site that one of the painters used it on a child's face as revenge for a mom who went over her head to circumvent her 'end-of-line' policy for closing the line. I guess the mom got her way and the painter painted the kid, but whipped out the Wolfe Black!
Re: My Big Chicken first approach to Spiderman....
Revenge is sweet!! Whahahahahahaaaa
Thing is the "staining" is not consistent. AND... using glycerin based soap will remove it all if only people would use it. Pears Soap is a common brand.
Some people get stained by yellows (and colours containing yellow like green and orange) other are stained by blues (and colors containing blue like green and purple).... and it really isn't a "stain" per se, it is lingering on the surface only.
Wolfe black is just sticking... it has a high wax content and therefore lingers a bit. Soap on a washcloth or a sponge even and some friction will actually get most of it, and if you use glycerin soap it will all come off easily.

Use Lacquer thinner to remove the stains off your Manniquin face..Don't get it on her painted eyes because it will remove the paint..I clean Pearl (My manniquin) with Dawn then clean the hard to get out stains with the thinner..It works......Your female spidey is really cute..I love it...

Re: My Big Chicken first approach to Spiderman....
Holy crap. That is quite nice! You are one to watch!
Re: My Big Chicken first approach to Spiderman....
And....please don't fret so much over the staining. I put on my business cards that if there is a slight staining, merely wash again the next day. I cover myself by explaining that skin, but nature, is a pourous thing. Some more than others. Any color might stain. If there is any fear, please don't have the child sit in my chair.
This blunt honesty has always worked.
Just as "Will this sting if I get it in my eyes?" Yes it most likely will, but so will water. Anything that is not the fluid from your eyes will sting.

Re: My Big Chicken first approach to Spiderman....
That's your first attempt? That's awesome, seriously. You have great linework. What kind of doll is that?
Re: My Big Chicken first approach to Spiderman....
Thanks! It's a doll head that my sister left here when she dropped out of cosmetology school, I started to give it to the goodwill a couple of years ago but something told me to toss it up in the closet. It's really a freaky thing with human hair and everything. It scares the crap out of me from time to time when I'm not fully aware.
My line work? Seriously? Wow, thanks! Considering the fact that the stupid doll head kepted rotating on me, I appreciate that!

Re: My Big Chicken first approach to Spiderman....
The eyes scared me at first! *lol*
I thought you was afraid of red because it say on it, it should not be used near the eyes. Red is normally not a problem getting of, like the others say.
It is a good design, and if you have combined the elements, then I would say it is your design. And if you can do it on a practice head you can easy do it on a real one.
About the black, I use DFX all the times (with a card that says how to remove it), and yes I hear people telling it was a little difficult getting some of it of (green more that black, but is is never as a complain, just a information when I meet them again, standing in line to be painted), but I have more people telling that they like it is looking good several hours later.

Re: My Big Chicken first approach to Spiderman....
lol! The whole thing scares me and my husband from time to time. Particularly when I leave the head sitting on the dining room table and one of us gets up in the middle of the night to get a drink from the kitchen. The whole decapitated head thing is a little unnerving. I'm hoping that positioning it there will startle any would-be robbers...
The hard thing about painting on the head is that the eyes won't close...well they're not supposed to. I guess it's better to get paint in a mannequin's eyes than a little tykes...

Re: My Big Chicken first approach to Spiderman....
I understand the being startled at night bit!! I've got a lifesize Capt Picard cutout (don't ask) and we had him standing in the living room for awhile (again, don't ask) and he scared everyone in the family repeatedly!!
He's now folded up in the basement.

Re: My Big Chicken first approach to Spiderman....
*lol* my dad got a male mannequin for his birthday and kept it in the garage. The lighting there is the one that switch on and of a few times fast, before starting for real. That did get my heart rate up more than ones, because I kept forgetting it was there.
Re: My Big Chicken first approach to Spiderman....
I don't know about you Lone Wolf, but I'm just itching to ask...
BTW...Picard is just as 'comely' as Sean Connery in my book...

Re: My Big Chicken first approach to Spiderman....
I had a life size figure of George Clooney standing in my apartment once ;-)
Re: My Big Chicken first approach to Spiderman....
I would love to have a life sized cutout of Picard in my house... I had a very large poster of Data for a while.
Re: My Big Chicken first approach to Spiderman....
We have stood him in the living room with the lights on timers when we've been away on holiday... better than a recording of a rabid rottweiler.

That is a more normal explanation than mine. I just thought he was good looking ;-)
Re: My Big Chicken first approach to Spiderman....
A simple explanation. There's us with our suspicious minds LOL!
