Best place to get StarBlend powders?
Can anyone tell me where the best place is to get StarBlend powders? I've looked at SF but the $9 shipping for 3-2oz pots is a bit daunting...to say the least. I want to try them out and I almost jumped on the 3/$22 deal at SF, but the shipping stopped me cold. Does the shop here ever carry them?
Re: Best place to get StarBlend powders?
I guess my first question would be what is driving you to get them? I used them in hopes they would be good and quick for the little ones. They were, but they were extremely messy on the kids clothes. I hear they are good in the heat, but the coverage is patchy. I quickly traded my orange, white and red and have never looked back.
I haven't seen a big demand for them at all and based on personal experience, I probably wouldn't put them in the shop.

Is it because of a blending issue?

I don't use them either for face painting. They are great pancake make-up and I use them wet for foundation/bases in the theatre, but dry... I thought they were pants as the Brits say.
They are not terribly bright (at least what I tried), it's powder so doesn't stay there, application can be blotchy if the skin is damp or sticky...
If you want to dry powder for bases the loose Snaz Glitter Arti powders are nice and bright, you can also use cheap bright colours of pressed powder blush or eyeshadows - dollar stores are great for those!
You should be able to buy they at any reasonable theatrical supply store and some costume shops - they are a common brand (Mehron) and fairly well used in theatrical circles - mostly foundation shades, but they may carry the fantasy colours too.

It's a blending issue...
And my fear and loathing of painting red on someone's face. I'm working up the courage to do a full face spidey and saw a tip on SF about using the red & white starblend powder instead of paint. I use mineral make up for my own cosmetic needs, so I'm comfy with that. It might just be a mental stumbling block for me, but I have to find a way around it.

Well, after seeing Mama Clown (Marcela Murad) in some classes at Mooseburger Camp, I can tell you... she LOVES her powdered makeup. I'm not as impressed with it... it's not as bright and so really not as impressive as the water activated paints. This is not to say that she isn't an incredible painter, she most definitely is amazing in her line work, swirls and overall designs to feature the focal points of the face... but, I'm not sold on the powders. I can say that as a parent, I would think it really cheaping out on the Spiderman design to have all the red done with powder.
Don't worry about them washing off the red, it doesn't stain nearly as badly as like green does. I'd be a little more leary about painting some kid like the Hulk or something and let them know they might need to use more soap to get that off.

Spiderman isn't scary... monotonous yes, scary no. There isn't any blending to do... c'mon, try it!! The Snaz red is easy to apply really - it is the best red goes on easily with a swipe (doesn't need to be tapped or dabbed!)

For YOU it goes on with a swipe! For me...it's a circus routine. I couldn't look that smooth applying paint if I tried to! The whole hand shaking thing does me in everytime! How the *bleep* do you do that with a *bleepin* sponge???!!! I'm going to study those pictures...hard!
Got any pictures of a spider...one that I could handle?
Re: Best place to get StarBlend powders?
This is an easy one... really. The lines aren't even very good...
Oh.. and it is all Snaz.

Re: Best place to get StarBlend powders?
Go right ahead... I also do it on the diagonal and blend the black and red together - looks really cool that way but I didn't want to freak out you know who

I was also not impressed with the StarBlend powders. The colors aren't very bright, tends to rub off in a short while, and when the child sweats it just looks awful.

Re: Best place to get StarBlend powders?
Just Thought I would add my thoughts here on this topic. I use the powders constantly. The colors are duller than regular paint, but SO comfortable to wear. They don't itch as much and are easy to apply around the eye area with out the kids flinching. I use red and white on spidey, my orange-yellow-white on my tiger, red does a devil, or dragon, or I use green for dragons too. I use the brown for dogs, bears and monkeys. It is nice because I don't have to wait for it to dry before I do the line work. It does not look as nice, but it keeps my hands clean, and is SO much faster. I think they are a bit of a crutch for me, and I am working to use them less, but when I am trying to paint 20+ kids an hour at a restaurant, I LOVE them. The coverage can be poor, but usually it is great. The blending works alright too, if you are blending with other powders.

Powders for face painting
I am WILD about Starblends! Half of my kit is pressed powders. LOVE them!
I tried to find you a few photos I did with MAINLY powders. Hard to do as I use them OVER so many paints for more virbrant colors.
But, the butterfly background is all just Starblends , with Diamond FX for the white lines and the little roses
The Cheetah white and orange is all Starblends. You can see the while and black I added over it.
The Thing is mainly Starblends orange, the shadows are all starblends black, he white highligts SB white. I did him a awhile, I think I might have based him with a bit of orange as well. But, as I recall, I was out of orange.

Re: Best place to get StarBlend powders?
I love my starblends and have them in 9 colors. The pigments are bright maybe not as intense at paints but certainly not flat. I use them mainly in the warmer months, but do get the ocassional patron that doesn't like the feel of paint on their skin so it is nice to be able to offer an alternative.
If I really need to pop the color up then I will go over it with the lumieres to add shimmer and sheen.

Re: Best place to get StarBlend powders?
Am I the only one that loves Starblends?? lol.. I use the orange one every summer because of the INTENSE humidity around here. The white, I will admit is kinda poopy, not very bright, but the orange, red, pink, and yellow are all favs of mine! here is a tiger that is all Starblend. I did it at a big festival that I do every year for 3 days where I have to be really fast and the kids are able to run around water fountains
Re: Best place to get StarBlend powders?
The original question was the best place to get them and I say madhattermagicshop.com. If you decide to go with them. I personally haven't fallen in love yet, but am working on it. I will say they can create looks that I can't get with paints, but that's the only thing I like so far.
Re: Best place to get StarBlend powders?
has anyone tried the magic cakes by ben nye. you can use them dry or wet
I only have the black and white..the white seams to be ok..the black is not as black as I would like but ok..I have been wanting to get the other colors due to the humidty here also..I like the fact you can use them wet or dry

Re: Best place to get StarBlend powders?
I got over excited when I heard about the powders and bought the large set from SF. I think there are 6 large and 3 sm neons. The neons barely show however they did work under black light. I rarely take the powders with me but my little girl does not like paint near her eyes, she is a bit picky. She always has me use the powder, so that makes it worthwhile for me to have them.
When I have taken them, I used them on very tiny children that I needed to be super fast on. One spidy, one puppy. I gotta say though, when doing a white puppy face in the powder, the pink blends so well on the cheeks for a blushy look.

Re: Best place to get StarBlend powders?
OK, I have a gig today and am inspired to give my starblends another go round. Maybe I just haven't used them enough to feel comfortable.

I just practiced doing spiderman for the first time the other night and it was on my bf haha and he was paranoid about the red staining too. I did a white base with snaz (just in case there was staining) and used red snaz and it came off fine no staining at all. He used regular soap for the bulk of it and anything left I used a makeup remover wipe
