Re: Trouble with Bases
I only use Snaz too... make sure your sponge isn't too wet and when you are putting it on, pat it and twist a little when taking it off. Layers won't really help because the new wet paint will just take off the old. It's mostly practice, but make sure your sponge isn't too terribly wet. It's better too if your paints have been "warmed up" as I like to say by using them a little first so the water soaks down into them a bit first, but not a wet sponge... don't know if that makes much sense to anyone but me.
Re: Trouble with Bases
Also make sure you are using a pushing into the skin like dab, dab, dab, as opposed to wiping or swiping it on as it will take it off as you are trying to put more on and look splotchy.

Re: Trouble with Bases
I add drops of water to my cakes, let it sit a bit to make a gooey spot, then load a dry sponge and I Tap Tap Tap to apply.

I had trouble when I first started too. Someone more experienced watched me and pointed out that my sponges seemed to be the problem. She loaned me a few of hers and viola, better bases.

Re: Trouble with Bases
Oh yeah. of course... what kind of sponges are you using? If you are trying to use those white cosmetic wedges... that would be the problem!

Re: Trouble with Bases
Tack sponges work and are cheaper than "face painting Sponges" I wrote about it in my blog - the entry dated May 17 (link is in my signature)
If you have the Snaz ones - are they light peach or dark orange? They recently changed to the dark ones and I haven't heard many good things.

Re: Trouble with Bases
I have some on the forum shop that are high-density, and have both a rounded edge than straight edge to make sponging round things like muzzles, spiderman's eyes, ect...a breeze. At around a dollar each(you cut to make two), they are a steal!

Re: Trouble with Bases
I started with the white cosmetics too, and had a horrible time with them. Then they gave me the same advice as you. It makes a huge difference. It also saves paint. I bought a carwash sponge at the dollar store and cut it. works great, just make sure if you go that route that the sponge is firm. I also have the tac sponges and they work great too.

Re: Trouble with Bases
Tack... as in horses, saddles.... Tack sponges are packaged and sold for cleaning leather.

These are the type of sponges I use - I haven't bought from this site, but these are the exact sponges.
