Dog or Cat Person? Empty Dog or Cat Person?

Post by Guest Wed Oct 01, 2008 8:00 pm

I admit to having and loving both at different times, but will say that I'm a dog person. We lost Little Dog last August - she was 17.5 years old and a toy poodle. Little dogs are different than big dogs... they are permanent attachments! She went everywhere with us. After almost 18 years with someone or somedog it leaves a big hole in your life.

We decided we are not getting another though as we like to travel and having a small pet tied us down.

Dog person!

I do like outgoing cats though. My husband is a cat person, so we HAD to have a cat for his sake. When we go to the animal shelter, we usually let the cat choose us... that way, we know it won't be a timid cat.

Would have to be dogs if I had to choose, but I really love all animals. I have a a Jack Russell and a mini dashaund, which are both my shadows.

Kitties !!
from day one, Mom says all cats like me and it's mutual.
My current kitten and I chose each other. Found her at a cat shelter. I went through every kitten in the room to make sure I didn't miss a one. She was the bottom of a pile. I sat her on my knee and she didn't move, set her on the floor and she huddled under my chair. I couldn't take her home that day, was super hard to leave her. Came back a few days later and the room full of kittens was about empty, only the pairs that had to be adopted together and her were left. The fellow who helped me fill out my paperwork to adopt her look at me as if I was crazy. ("You want that cat? "his look said) She had scratched him just that morning. He made me put her in the box to take her home! I guess she made sure I was the one to come back and get her Wink
Now she is the sweetest thing ever and super gentle, so go figure.

Kitties!!!!!

I have two Main Coons...have always wanted them. They are like having small dogs!

One is solid white (Ghost)

The other is tiger striped (Taz)

I like dogs...want to get a Syberian Husky...but if I could have any 'dog' it'd be a wolf or wolf hybrid. Who didn't love Lassie and 'Max' from the Six Million Dollar Man!! Smile I like the larger dogs...also like Norweigan Elk Hounds and Irish Hunting Dogs.

We had a Norweigan Elkhound on the farm! Beautiful animal. Her name was "Elkie" ... also, a Border Collie named "Willie", a black & Tan Coonhound named "Dorky" which was short for "Dorcas" ... and various others at other times.

Cats... we had 22 at one time once. It was a Farm! Memorable pet cats were "Macarthur" (he used to leave us fresh meat on the mat every day!), Fat Cat, Hairy, Mommy Cat, Gramma Cat, Satan, Salem, Selina, Simba, Darcy, Si and Amese (the twins)

Man - I have had both growing up, and loved one or the other or both at the same time. Here it is tough to have cats outdoors - too much wildlife and insect pests- not to mention the 6 ft gator in my backyard! and I HATE LITTERBOXES!!!

Right now I can't imagine a dog with a houseful of kids - one more being to clean up after. I LOVE THEM BOTH I guess - just couldn't handle either at this point in my life. Favorite growing up - Critter - the mutt with terrier smarts and personality (and a disgusting penchant for raiding people's trash and bringing home his treasures!!! Ewww!) and Tazi - the ditzy strawberry blonde afghan hound who loved to run and had 3 false pregnancies and produced milk for her squeaky toy "baby" - and could dog talk " I ruuvv ruuu!" (I love you) and had a favorite bean bag she slept on!

Favorite cat was "Spike" - my pampered baby rescue with downy rabbit soft grey fur who I named Caspian. My boyfriend named him Spike while I was on vacation and later he did became a notorious neighborhood rascal scrapper/lover cat and a traitor who would visit 10 houses to be fed and pet!!! Everyone thought he was theirs I think and he probably had 8 names and families!!!! sorry too long a post had fun remembering my fuzzy friends! little tear and smile
