Can't open my paint
Hi, I'm a bit frustrated 'cause I've been wanting to paint something all day but can't open my Tag White. I ran it under hot water and had no luck. I tried prying it open with a knife and had to get my thumb glued and a tetanus shot. I've just boiled it and had no luck, now it's full of water. If anyone knows what to do, please let me know!
Re: Can't open my paint
Do you have one of those rubber jar openers? I would put the paint on a towel or a placemat or something that will grab the bottom and then press down really hard with the rubber round with your whole hand and twist. You've probably cross threaded it. You might try hot just on the lid before you try to open it.
So sorry about the cut! My son-in-law had to have tendon surgery because he tried to pry frozen chicken apart with a knife. I'm much more careful now about using a knife for anything.

Re: Can't open my paint
Thanks heaps, Denise! I actually managed to open it a few minutes after I posted. I put it in the freezer for a little bit and it opened easily. I was wishing I had one of those rubber grip things today! I'd love to know how to avoid it happening again - what is cross threading? I'm afraid to put the lid back on now! I was silly to grab a knife (a paring on at that) - I was just so frustrated! That must have been a really nasty cut to require surgery, yikes
Re: Can't open my paint
Just when one of the threads gets ahead of itself and goes on the next thread and gets wedged in...really easy to do with nuts and bolts. Just keep your lids as parallel as possible when you put it on and don't force it on.
I'm glad you got it off. Was the paint all melted or did you save it?

Oh I see...it wasn't too bad, I had to pour a bit out but it's mostly fine, thank goodness and I finally got to paint an angry bird! Thanks for your advice
Re: Can't open my paint
Ouch! The rubber thingies save me all the time...not with paint, but when my fingers get stiff from arthritis, I can't grip, and they are great! What is braided in your hair? It looks cool!
Re: Can't open my paint
I've never had that happen w/ my paints before. So sorry about your thumb(Ouch). I keep my paints velcroed in a scrapbook paper holder($5 at Walmart) w/ their lids off. This might help. It gives them just enough airflow to dry them out after a long day of painting. It also makes closing a breeze(no screwing tons of lids on at the end of a gig... I just close the lid & I'm done.
Re: Can't open my paint
Yep, definitely need to get a rubber grippy thing - so handy. I usually do my own hair and always wear the rainbow scrunchies with coloured plaits that are just on hair elastics but I had my hair done here for a cabaret night. The hairdresser put rows of braids on one side and also at the back. She put some GHD curls in too, I really liked it and thanks for the compliment . Thanks for the tip, psalmbook - I have a Mehron palette but also have a few of those scrapbook holders. think I'll get some velcro and start putting the paints that don't fit into one of the clear cases. I'm still too scared to put the lid on my white! I'm supposed to keep my thumb dry for a few days but I don't think I can do it, it just isn't practical!
Re: Can't open my paint
this happened to me too once..not the cutting part..
but I had to wreck the lid..could not be saved anymore..the lid that is..not the paint...

Re: Can't open my paint
Go to the drug store and get something called a Cot, I think, that is like a tight single finger glove to go over your bandage, that way you will not get it wet, and you can still paint! it is all about the painting!
Re: Can't open my paint
It's all about the painting --- isn't that the truth! I recently broke a tooth, MINUTES before leaving for a gig. I just grinned and bared it, lol... literally! I tried to open my mouth as little as possible so I wouldn't disturb the tooth. As soon as I could get to a dentist, he was amazed, the tooth was abscessed also. YES, We CAN paint while in pain!

The last TAG paint I bought was the rectangle and I totally cracked it while opening it the first time. Ugg! It's still usable and no one sees the cracked lids because I take all my paints out and remove lids at setup

Sorry to hear you broke your tooth, Lorie! Yes, it's all about the painting, but too late for the cot - My hands got wet and I'm pretty sure the glue's all gone. I managed to slice my knee by kneeling on a razor in the shower today, must be the week for it
