I need help from the experts*

Hello Joyful people
So one of my friends told me that a dentistry wants to hire a face painter for the waiting room so the kids can entertain them selves for a few minutes... So Im going on Friday to talk to the owner, but I have no idea how much to charge! It opens at 10am & ends at 5pm Fridays only... Please help! should I charge by the hr? day? kid? (parents don't pay)

I'd do by the day - you aren't going to want to cut it short, and no matter how many kids you have or don't have there, you can't paint faster and you aren't going to be leaving - if you give them a "day rate" then both of you are covered....

well, it's a day where you wouldn't have parties anyway, so you wouldn't be losing other business from it and you likely won't be all that busy... a dentist can only go so fast to begin with so you'd probably have a good 15 minutes or more per child. So I'd probably say $200?? (I know it's extremely low for hourly, but it's a good amount for an easy day) Or ask them how many appointments they have in that time and you can judge an average per face amount and give them a total that way?

I agree with Perry...I'm of the opinion that if it is an ongoing gig, you can come down on your hourly rate. Who knows? It may give some other dentists a good idea - you could pitch it to them, showing your success in that office.

Are they going to be advertising? If they are and the families bring all the kids to get painted while they wait... could be fairly steady.

I agree with the day rate for charging. My day rate is based on my hourly rate - basically if they book me for the day which I define as up to 7 hours of painting I only charge them for 5 hours. So two hours free if you book seven.

But it will depend on time of day, day of the week, numbers expected and if it would be a day when no other work would come up.

I do an event every few months for a dentist office. They hire me for 2 hours & pay my normal hourly rate. I never paint kids before they get seen by the dentist(it's way too messy). It might be a very LONG day sitting there waiting to paint kids. Maybe ask if they'd like to host one of these events?

I work for a general Dentist. I am a Dental hygienist by day and for a Children's dentist that would be such a cool idea!!!! I may have to tell my sis in law that actually works for a Children's dentist
