Over the moon!
I am so happy to be able to share this news with you guys...no one else quite understands why I can cry happy tears over this. Yesterday the owner of the pumpkin patch/corn maize (I've been painting there for over a month 6 days a week) came up to my tent and said she's so happy to have me there and said my work is amazing and really impressive (I'm still a novice compared to most on this board though). She said she really hopes I will commit to being there next year too! I got a little sappy on her and told her that I was so grateful for the opportunity she had given me, that it has helped me grow my business faster than I could have ever thought and I'd definitely be there next year and would block it off of my calendar immediately. Since I've been painting there I've gone from folding chairs and a bare bones kit to a professional looking setup with a tent, a directors chair and a FatMax, I have way more paint (and I'm even running out of that!) and better brushes, I've gone through about 400 business cards and 200 Flyers, I've got people calling me for bookings a few times a week, I'm faster and I can see my work improving...and I'm contributing to my household budget which feels so great! I'm sorry if this post sounds like too much of a brag...I'm just really proud of myself for once. I really have you guys to thank for helping me get there and being such a great community of friends and I feel like we're all long distance co-workers.
Oh, and I'd like to mention to anyone reading this who is waiting for something like this to come their way...these kind of gigs can find you anywhere...I remember a thread started a while ago that was about whether posting ads on craigslist was worth it or not, and this gig pretty much fell in my lap and they found me from my craigslist ad. I had a few duds from that ad, people trying to get me to work for free and people trying to bargain my price down, and a few flaky people cancel on me...but overall, don't forget that it only takes the right person finding you to kick start you down the path to success. It could be a craigslist ad, it could be painting yourself or your children and going grocery shopping and handing out cards to people who say "oh how cute", or it could be a guest at a party where you're painting.
Ok, that was enough sap from me for the day.
Now I better get to washing my brushes and sponges .

Re: Over the moon!
Thanks Happy Daze & Mommakat!
Mommakat, I believe that if you put yourself out there...it's bound to happen! Just remember that the person in line behind you in the grocery store could be THE person who's been looking for you and could make all the difference! Geeze, I'm starting to sound like a self help book author huh? *LOL*

Re: Over the moon!
I'm so glad things have picked up for you! Sounds like you are really on your way.
I know what you mean about being excited to contribute to the family budget, too! With the extra $$ I've earned this month, I've not only grown my business like crazy, but also paid to have our wood burning stove installed, and gotten a load of firewood. We are set for winter. And I DID IT!! Feels amazing!

Re: Over the moon!
So cool! I have to say I might try the craigs list thing. I have had since I started about 3 months ago alot of word of mouth work. I really want to help with the family budget so your story is a bit of a self help but I needed that right now so thank you!

I'm so happy for you!!! Your kind words to "us" beginners are a real boost! Just know that I have been buying paints, brushes, a couple of books, a canopy, tables and chairs so far for about 5 or 6 months as my budget allows. Hopefully in the near future I will begin my face painting journey and I hope it goes as well as yours has! My desire is also to help my family with extra needed income. I check this forum daily for inspiration and have definitely found it here! I eat, sleep, and dream face painting!!! ~~blessings~~

Re: Over the moon!
Thank You Rae, you're so inspiring...every time you post one of your super creative original designs it makes me feel like coming up with something of my own. I know we started down the face painting path at about the same time...but I struggle to be as creative as you. When I'm done working 6 days a week I'm gonna challenge myself to create something new for EACH challenge.
Re: Over the moon!
Congrats!!!!
It does feel very good to contribute to the household budget! I work in our shop all day, but since I don't technically bring home a paycheck sometimes I still feel like I'm not contributing...it's nice to be able to bring in something tangible isn't it?
