What to charge schools?
Another question (am sure there will be many more!!) I have been asked to paint at a local primary schools concert next week. Do I charge by the hour or PPF? I did a trade day (fund raiser) today at another primary school. I charged PPF and donated a $1 per face to the school. So I need to know what you guys do. Do you hire yrself out at and hourly rate, PPF or as fundraising. I dont mind doing fetes as a fund raiser but what about other school events like this concert?
Thanks for your ideas!!

Re: What to charge schools?
I think you should talk to the school and see what they have in mind. If they have it in their budget, have a number ready to give them. Here the going rate is like $50-60 an hour. If they are prepared to pay that, then go for it (I will take a paid gig any day!) if not, then be prepared to do PPF. Hope that helps! Tracy

I get hired to demo/teach theatrical and sfx make-up to schools - they pay my workshop rate. As I am not painting more than 4 models for demo purposes my rate for teaching is slightly less than my regular hourly rate.
I have painted at school events - I charge them my non-profit rate.
I never do PPF.

Re: What to charge schools?
If the school can't afford you maybe they have a sponsor that will pay for you to paint at the school.
Re: What to charge schools?
I have a school function for the PTA in December. They are giving me a free table space and advertising, and I will do PPF with $1.00 of each face going back to the PTA.
Re: What to charge schools?
Thanks for the ideas guys, sorry its taken me so long to get back to this thread, been super busy. I appreciate all your ideas. I have since done a gig for a primary school. I did the PPF and donated $1 back to the school again. However, it was the end of year school concert and most of the teachers were painting the kids faces for the concert so I ended up doing 4 hours and painted 11 faces. Got a few cards out so that was good. I don't mind helping out the schools but that was a long night for nothing really. Still will keep going and see how things progress. Thanks all.

Re: What to charge schools?
I have done several school and they just pay my regular rates. The only time a discount would even be considered is if it was one of my kids schools
Re: What to charge schools?
Schools are non-profits in my books so they get my non-profit hourly rate or a % of ppf.
Re: What to charge schools?
Most schools are 501c3, if not all schools, so I charge my charity rate, or donate back on PPF.
I do have events at craft fairs at some schools, but that is different, I pay the booth rental, and I take in my money. One called me to see what we could set up, and they just ended ups saying that it would be better for them if my booth fee was the donatation...fine with me, as it would be anyway!
