An Aussie Halloween tale...
So most people don't celebrate halloween in Oz, but it has been gaining popularity over the last few years.
But a couple of years ago I was at my folks place at Halloween when we got a knock and some kids dressed up saying trick or treat.
Hmmmm, now what? So my mum, ever the quick thinker goes to the cupboard and gets some dry biscuits (about the only sweet thing in the house) and opens the pack and tells them to pick one.
Cue the crickets.... You could just feel the disappointment in the air from the kids, so they reluctantly took one (2 kids said no thanks) and left. No other kids came by... Hysterical!!!
So the following year, I thought I would be the "cool" house and my housemate and I stocked up on awesome chocolates and lollies. Big mistake! Every kid in Brisbane rocked up I think to get some. And I swear swapped costumes to come back again.
My house mate, ever the grumpy guy he was, finally cracked it and yelled at them to go away after the 24th knock. then shut the door and turned the lights off. We could hear them at the front door debating what to do...
This year? Too bad! I'm doing a course with Bec anthony! Yeahhh!

Germany didn't 'do Halloween' either when we were posted there. We had a short list of Americanand Canadian families whose homes we could visit - but we got an address wrong and the poor family answering the door to eight children and two adults (all dressed up and hollering 'trick or treat') didn't know what to do...we didn't clue in at first till they came back with a large bag of potato chips and asked it we could share it among us! We had a good laugh, appologized for our error....gave back the chips and wished them a 'peaceful' evening!
