Tale of the Perfect Face Painting Kit
So Here are my ideas:
I want it be able to take out and put away my kit as fast as possible (that is why I like the train case set up) ((For those who do not know a train case looks like this )
I want to be able to see all my paints (this is why I dislike the traditional train case set up)
I don't want my paints to be upside down (obvious reasons)
My current Train Case (which is falling apart because of the weight of all my makeup might I add) is a pain in the butt.
I can't see half of my colors and the thing takes up half of the table. Instead of saving me space it works against me because I still have an entire table filled with open cakes that I am using or have used.
Did I mention I can't see all my colors? Gah, that bothers me to no end.
Also, the litter of paint pots scattered about my table is a nuisance as well.
I want to contain it to one place!
I was thinking of buying some thin plywood from home depot and cutting it to fit into the bottom part of the Fatmax. Then covering it with felt and use double sided tape to hold my paint pots in place. I would make several of these rectangular paint pot holders and they would stack at the bottom of my fat max separated by some Styrofoam or something soft.
So when I got to a gig I could pull out one by one and have all my colors visible, easily accessible/replaceable.
Does anyone have any better ideas?

Psalm!! What is this mystical white box that holds your cakes on top.
Where did you get it or how did you make it?
Where is it stored?
How do you feel about it? What do you like dislike ect (How do you FEEL about it, sounds like a therapy session rofl)

Re: Tale of the Perfect Face Painting Kit
I have something similar.....
Mine are A4 Slim Tuff Boxes (TIger Brand) I got from my local cheap shop. It's a document holder (holds 150 sheets of paper....or my paints!only 11 of the 32g tags though not twelve) They're not super strong, they're plastic, and for the $2.50 they cost....they'll do until I save up for proper laptop cases!
Stuck velcro to the case and my paints, (taking inspiration from in here!ty fpf!) and voi la!

Noella:
Problem is I would need 2 of those to be able to see all my paint at once. A low ball estimate of how many cakes I have would be around 50.
I Like where you are going with this Kris.
Look, you can even get a holder for the containers!
I wonder.....

That's them![img][/img]
Oh lord 1st post with pic....fingers x'd it's not huge!
That's just a 2 second setup for a pic, just some idea.
Pro's: they're cheap, clear,lids stack together
Cons: the attaching clips aren't the greatest.
On an additional pro they're tougher than they look I just sat on an empty and it survived!! not the easiest task!

Re: Tale of the Perfect Face Painting Kit
MelindaT0813, may I ask where you found those document boxes and container at?
love 'em!
love 'em!
Re: Tale of the Perfect Face Painting Kit
Self stick hook and loop fasteners (velcro) will hold much better than double sided tape.

I remember coming across Michelle Heffners blog on this topic and freaking out about my kit taking 10 mins to set up! Hope it helps?

Those are $5 scrapbooking paper holders from Walmart. I velcro the paints in & remove all the lids. All I have to do is open it & paint(no unscrewing lids for me). I have 2 of them & store them in the bottom of my fatmax.

The Proper Laptop case is awful! It doesn't latch closed & your paints will continually fall out. I replaced mine with a 2nd $5 case.
Re: Tale of the Perfect Face Painting Kit
Thanks Psalm, you've just saved me $$...I can x those off wishlist and dream of next purchase!

Re: Tale of the Perfect Face Painting Kit
Thats what I use for mine -the scrapbook paper holder and carry bag too. Only I put rubber matting like for rugs inside and it keeps the paint snug in the case then sits vertically in the scrapbooking bag. Ill get a pic soon but everything I have is in one carry case and one bag.
Re: Tale of the Perfect Face Painting Kit
My laptop didn't take long to not close either. However I still carry it with a rubber band around to keep it closed. The little black hole thingies fell out after a week or two. I ditched the insert not long after I got it, I don't think I would pay that much for it again
Re: Tale of the Perfect Face Painting Kit
I've had my laptop case for over a year now and it still works great... I love it and it looks much more professional than the clear plastic IMHO
Re: Tale of the Perfect Face Painting Kit
I've had others say the same thing about the "professional" look of the scrapbook containers, but all I ever hear from the clients is the "Ooohs & Aaahs" of how many paints I have
The scrapbook containers also wash out w/ soap & water amazingly & don't stain(the laptop has a bit of texture to it that makes the outside harder to keep clean looking). This is the Mehron one.
