Painting a one year old????????? Empty Painting a one year old?????????

Post by By These Hands Fri Oct 21, 2011 11:36 pm

I recently did a party for a one year old. May of you know that they DO NOT sit still long enough to paint anything!! How do you pull off a design on a one year old? I have another party tomorrow and I am trying to figure out how to incorporate him into the whole face painting experience and end up with a decent extra quick design. The theme is barney.
Thanks!!!!!

I don't, period. They don't understand what is happening so I won't paint babies.

If you insist, get a stamp (cut a sponge into the shape) and just press it on quickly.

Try a rainbow cake swipe and add stars...IF the kiddo doesn't mind. Some LOVE the attention & new experience, but you never know until you try. I've had little tykes who absolutely floor me by letting me do full faces, which is very unusual...& when they don't, "Oops, baby doesn't want painted, so sorry". (I hate parents who try to force the situation by tackling the poor kid & put it in a head-lock & say..."just paint".)

Agreed Anniel! I can't paint a child who is being restrained like that.

I have a sign that says no one under one and also I will not paint anyone against their will! Some parents are crazy for trying to hold down the child. Any way, I had someone sit down with a 1 yr old the other day and I explained that I would do something small if he wanted. That little boy put his cheek out there and sat so still! I couldn't believe it. I asked the mother about it and she said that he had so many surgeries that he is used to being handled by people and actually enjoys being handled. He was a sweetie. That was rare usually the lil boogers get something small if I don't have to chase them. If I do, I just tell the parents, "Sorry, they just aren't into it. Smile

I do mostly, fan brush rainbow butterflies, spider with a tiny web, and lots of Mickey mouse faces Smile

The mickey is two dotter wands(one small and one medium) preloaded and do it fast. If they love it, then I'll add glitter and some white highlight Smile Sometimes, I'll add a bow for minnie.

If they aren't into it, then I say sorry, maybe later after he/she sees the other kids get painted Wink

I've always painted any child, except when they are sleeping. Because they could wake up and get scared and never get a face painting again. I really have no problem painting their faces, with a quick tear drop flower with some sparkles.

I do so many first birthdays that I can't say no based on age alone. If they are not crying and don't pull away from me, I will try. I usually suggest that it go on their hand. My default designs for that age are butterfly brush or a quick spider. Even if they won't let me do the body and antennae on the butterfly, it still looks like a butterfly. There are just as many fantastic one year olds as there are terrible 5 year olds.

I painted a 1 yr. old today. It was her brthday and the theme was minnie mouse. Her mom and dad asked me to try so they could get it on video. So she sat with the mom and the dad had the camera. Well, she turned out to be great!!!!! Every time I touched her with the brush she laughed and smiled at me. I painted a minnie mouse bow on her, and the dad was so grateful he tipped me $25.00.

This is not something I normally do, but all the planets were aligned for this to happen today. lolol

Thanks ladies. I ended up just painting a butterfly on one hand and a rainbow flower on the other hand. She had exzema so I could not do anything on the face.
The last 1 year old party I did, the theme was Sesame Street and the parent kept making me try to paint Elmo on his cheek. It was an epic FAIL! It looked a mess because he would not stay still. From now on, it's going to be easy peasy for the 1 year olds!
