Chair for short Face Painters?
Ok, I know we have discussed chairs several times, but my worries are with me being 5' 4" tall. Is a director's chair too tall for me? Will a 6' person sitting in my chair be too tall for me to reach? Should I just get a shorter folding chair? I was at Walmart yesterday and had my kids sit in a bar stool that folds just for fun and I thought it was tall enough. It made me wonder if a director's chair would be too tall. I don't want to spend $80 and it show up in the mail too tall more me. I'm hoping to make my decision in the next day or two. I need help deciding

Thank you Suzy! That's the shorter chair I was looking at on Ebay and at a good price! I wondered if that one would be better for me then the taller director's chair. The taller one is around $75-80 including tax.

I have a director's chair.
I make the kids scootch forward if they are taller instead of sitting with their backs against the chair back.

I'm just under 5'4" and I have a director's chair similar to this one:

I'd say 99% of the time it's great since the majority of who I paint are children or women. On the rare occasion that I have an exceptionally tall teen or adult in which case they can lean forward resting their elbows on their knees.

Re: Chair for short Face Painters?
I am 5'6" and I seem to do better sitting with the child directly in front of me,in a chair the same height as mine. I only used my tall chair 2 times though. Maybe I will try again. I'm a little gun shy after having a 4 year old tip backwards in it!!!!
Re: Chair for short Face Painters?
Jody, that sounds scary!!! Ack!
I wish I could see the taller chair in person or all of them beside each other in a picture.
I don't want to waste my money on smaller chairs and then even more money on the taller chair or not use it at all. I guess I just need to buy it and if I don't like it sell it on here LOL

Re: Chair for short Face Painters?
My 2 cents:
I'm 5'2 and have a tall director chair.. In the beginning I struggled because I was trying to paint the kids or adults by standing in front of them.
Now I set up my chair at an angle, that way they can sit all the way to the back and I'm still able to reach them, I make them move their head when I need to reach the other side or I walk. I position my kit at angle too, to avoid twisting and bending, and always to my right, since I'm right handed.

Re: Chair for short Face Painters?
I have a tall director's chair and find it actually too short! I'm 5' 10" and have to lean or bend a lot of the time. I really wish there was a better option for us tall types The problem is clients come in so many different height 'levels'...
Re: Chair for short Face Painters?
I am 5' 1# and actually just switched to an E-Z up brand which is a tad taller & lighter than my previous choices, and my back is much happier after long gigs than before!
Re: Chair for short Face Painters?
I just got the chair that Suzy showed the link for and it's pretty small. It's barely 2 inches taller then my kitchen chairs. I think I can make it work if I put a pillow in it and have the kids slouch back and rest their head on the back. This one is smaller then the medium. I thought it was the same. It's still a great chair, but I think I'll get the tall and use this one for adults being painted
I'm going to use it this weekend at two gigs and determine if I like it or not

Re: Chair for short Face Painters?
The aluminum tall chairs tend to be taller than the classic wooden directors chairs. I am 5"1" and my alum one is for inside, more upscale clients which often means adults and it's a bit of a reach to be comfortable with my strokework. I am on tippy toes to reach men over 6 foot. Also those alow more area for a little child to slip thru the back. My friend Dawn Dewitt is taller and find the alum to be more comfortable. So while it is a bit heavier go with the classic if you are under 5'4-5'6.
