dirty paint in your stand?? Empty dirty paint in your stand??

Post by vivi_o7 Sun Aug 07, 2011 11:44 pm

Hi, I went to a street fair today with my family, it was a small one, then I saw the face painting stand, they have nice banners, and where just placing their tent, but they have a regular plastic container full off stuff and in the top they have a large snaz pallet, I am always happy to see an other faice painter, but like I said, they where just putting everithyng up, but the pallet it was sooo dirty No , the paints has dark colored dots everywhere, and the pallet container was satin with every kind of color paint, I am not a cleaning frick, but as a mom I wont let them paint my childs faces with that paint, it looks like they had an event before, but they didn't take the time to clean their set (bad publicity), and you always have to had in mind the safety cleaning rules for your products to prevent any kind of germ situation, for you and for your customers, I always after an event first thing to do is clean my materials: brushes, sponges, paint, containers, etc, in that way your supplies last for long and had a healthy look, maybe I am exaggerating but that's my opinion, what do you think about? confused

With the dark colored dots, it seems like they are using a black brush for other colors. . . Which can make everything look dirty because it is so hard to get the paint out quickly. That's why I switched to Lisa Joy Young's idea of having one brush in each size for black, one for white, and one for other colors. I do that with my liner brushes and my size 4 round. It really helps keep things looking clean.

I don't think I would have let them paint my little one either. On the brightside, if they were just getting set up, maybe they were going to clean the kit before they started? You know, maybe they didn't have time after the last gig, and thought they would do it there instead. I hope so Smile

I always get my kit cleaned before bed after events, but it's almost midnight and I still haven't washed my brushes. . .moving off the couch seems like too much trouble at the moment. LOL. With that said, I will get to it. . . just 15 more minutes of relaxing Smile

I mix colors right on top of the paints... I don't think it was dirty... just a well used pallet of paint. I know after doing 4 gigs on Saturday my kit looked scary... It wasn't dirty though. I know it is easy to judge people... But as long as they were using safe paint, then everything should be fine Very Happy

I am with Suzy, I also mix my colors on top of the paint, I am not good at using different brushes for different paint. I do try to wipe the foam in my laptop case from time to time, this I noticed helped my kit to look more clean.

Yup, I'm a dirty paint-mixer as well, plus, some of my cakes are flecked with glitter which makes them look textured. My kit is wiped out, but as we all know, the paint stains plastics despite our best efforts with magic erasers and the like. We're so quick to try to call out other face painters that I wonder if we don't miss cool things we might learn from their kit or setup...

I mix colors too, who doesn't?, and of course you will have some watery dots around when you are working, but what I mind, is that the table and paint it actualy looks dirty and this people was just about to begin the event it wasnt during the event or something, and if you are goig to offer a service as this one, it doesn't looks that nice, I don't know but I like to have my material clean, like I said before I am always happy to see other facepainters and apreciate their work, otherwise I won't participate in this forum, I just add the coment because I think its inportat to pay attention in your materials, they are not cheep, so you have to take care of them, I arrive home late and very tired from gigs too and you just want to rest and sometimes the kids the house, you dont have time to clean your brushes and stuff right away, but if you have an event at list you must have your material clean, even for presentation to the clients, well thats my two cents geek

I mix paints but always mindful of what colors I bring in. Like I would never pull a darker color into a lighter color pot. I always take the lighter color over to the darker. I also have 2 separate whites one for mixing/blending and one I just keep prisitine to do anything else.

I manage to keep my kit pretty clean while working even through multiple gigs. I keep a wet black wash cloth on hand to wipe up here and there as needed. I do it so randomly it has almost become routine.......there's an oxymoron for ya..lolol

Thats one of the reasons I prefer to keep my paints in their original containers and not those bead boxes or that large white paint palette. The lids don't bother me, as I unscrew them all as I set-up but keep the lids sitting on top of the paint to keep drips from getting on them and also to keep anything else out i.e bugs. At the end of the job screw them all down pack up and off to the next job

I know what you mean about bugs! I have done some outdoor events at sundown when little gnats starting flying around and getting stuck in the paint! My paints are glued into a laptop type palette, so I kept a cover over my paints, but I was flicking bugs out for a while til they stopped coming over. I have some extra plastic sheets now to put over my paints in case of bugs or rain. Not fun. But I like the fact that I can just close my case and its done. I am thinking of investing in one of those table setups that someone makes.
