Barrier cream??
Hi, I was wondering if anyone uses a cream under their face paint? I have been painting at a local market without using one with no negative feedback, however, I am wondering if this is the right thing to do? The TAG fp suggests a barrier cream. If you do use one, what do you use and how do you go applying it? Do you ask parents to do this while waiting in line when busy? How long do I need to wait for it to absorb? Thanks guys!

Re: Barrier cream??
I used to carry just a small organic face cream for preventing stains--like if a child was to be in a wedding the next day or school pictures or something....but it just added weight, I didn't use it often enough to justify carrying it. Now I just paint in an obscure location or let the parents know where I am booked to paint/regularly paint for a future meet-up. Usually parents aren't too particular I've found...
Re: Barrier cream??
In my personal experience and research, kids are more likely to have an allergic reaction to an ingredient in whatever barrier cream you use than the face paints themselves so I dont use a barrier cream but do provide removal instructions.

Thanks for the quick response! Justine, what instructions do you give for removal? I tell parents that baby wipes are the best bet or a warm face washer in the bath. Do you have any other suggestions? And thanks for the welcome!!

Re: Barrier cream??
Thanks Justine. I'm in Echuca, on the border between Vic and NSW. Right on the Murray river. Yeah its nice!! Where are you? Just doing the local market. Starting small and getting some experience. Hoping one day to branch out into parties etc. Really enjoying the experience. Would love to be able to paint as professionally as some of the girls (no guys I think?) I see on this forum. (You included!!) Really appreciate your support.

Re: Barrier cream??
Hi to 2 fellow Victorians. Facepainting seems to be growing in popularity here, or maybe it's just more of us joining the forum. I'm in the greater Bendigo area - still more of a hobby for me until I get more practice in, but hoping to get out there soon.

Re: Barrier cream??
Hi from a fellow Aussie. i can't find on TAG where it say you need a barrier cream? I thought that was only Derivan? As for removal the only adverse reaction I've had was actually a reaction to the baby wipe as most aren't supposed to be used on eyes and also with TAG greens won't generally work. I recommend a lather of gentle baby soap and warm water with a face washer
Re: Barrier cream??
I'm in Lakes Entrance. We're all spread out! Who's got a few spare beds? We'll meet at your place for a jam. lol.
I second that about baby wipes - dont use them! Ok for small clean up if you have to but they're not meant for faces. Kids can have reactions to them plus they dont do a good job of removing tag paints anyway so they'll end up with stained skin.
Christina- I love the quote in your signature!

Re: Barrier cream??
Thanks Justine! Yes we should all get together for a jam sometime (I've never done one!). I'd love an excuse to head to Lakes Entrance - haven't been for years. As soon as the weather warms up.......

Re: Barrier cream??
Yr right Riana, there is nothing on the TAG paint about barrier cream. I was thinking of Derivan. Thanks so much to all the replies for this topic. You have all been a HUGE help! Vic girls, I can see a painting weekend forming!!!
