Re: Do you paint yourself for work?
I almost always paint myself. In the summer it's small & off the sides of the eyes, but not the forehead(that sweats). Sometimes, getting ready for work is the only time I get to practice. *I will often paint something I want to get practice on & get pictures of(something I don't mind getting 30 requests for ).
I'll also paint my upper arm, but never my chest area. I did this once I found out I sweat horribly there(I was a drippy mess).
On an off topic note... I saw a woman on a Harley who had "Granny Arms". I thought she was going to take flight as they flapped in the wind

You should have stopped her and whipped out the magpie cake! "What...lunch lady arms? No, that's just really good special effects!"
Thanks for the image! LOL

Arms Flapping in the wind! How funny!
I usually paint my arm. Right now, I think it's just to hot to paint my face. . .next week is going to be around 95. . .and humid. I think it would just sweat away.

mine either Shannon. I use to paint my face before every gig. I've stopped now, cause I'm not allowing myself that extra time. Reading this thread tho, makes me think to maybe start again. I know I always got wonderful comments when I did, & the most common comment was ' did you paint that on yourself. how did you do that your so clever, did you use a mirror?'
Re: Do you paint yourself for work?
I wear glasses so it's difficult but I prefer to have something small on my cheek and flowers butterflies or a snake on my arms ... which are hard to show in winter!

Re: Do you paint yourself for work?
BTW, I also wear glasses & just make sure not to put paint where my glasses rest. This has also helped me w/ kids who wear glasses.
Re: Do you paint yourself for work?
As my personal principle, you have to believe in what you do, if you don't put a paint on your face, how the moms are gonna think your staff is safe? I feel so guilty when I go work without painting my face, something small if I don't have the time, nothing complicated because as sweetcreationz said kids will want what you have on.
Re: Do you paint yourself for work?
I am so blind without my glasses, I simply cannot paint anything without them on. Doesn't matter how close I get to the mirror, not only can I not really see fine details but my distance judgement is way off without my glasses. I would probably poke my own eye out!!!
I am considering getting contacts just so I can paint myself!! I suspect they might be terribly expensive though since my lenses are progressive/multifocal.
But I do always paint my arm.

Re: Do you paint yourself for work?
I'm having trouble because I'm near sighted and I just got bad enough that I can't see close up when I have my glasses on. So I was putting on and taking off my glasses all afternoon at the fair. Couldn't do that with contacts though.

Yeppers - eye designs for me as well.
I was going for a red lipstick thing as well (part of my branding), but it was scaring the littlest kids so I switched back to lip gloss.
I keep extras or almost empty cakes in my bathroom so I don't have to whip out my entire kit right before a gig.

i always go spiderman.... small or half face.. everyone loves it.
Re: Do you paint yourself for work?
I love the pics, ladies - beautiful! Love the eye design and that doesn't look so simple to me, lol. Whatever the hair adornment is looks so fun and pretty on you! Love the tiger eyes, too - that seems like a possibility for hot summer events!
I have my first outdoor event coming up in July and it will likely be around 100* outside....working for a minimum of 6 hours. Under shade and I'll have my fan but still....eep! I keep wondering if they hired me because the more experienced fp'ers know not to do outdoor events in July/August.
I want to do something to advertise my art and make me more approachable to children. I wear glasses so not sure what to do as I know I will be sweating out there with no time to clean up a smudgy paint. Glitter tattoo bracelet and tiger eyes, maybe?

Re: Do you paint yourself for work?
I do try to always go out painted. Occasionally if it is wet or I have other non painting things on I don't bother.
I usually only paint a little something around the eye, a butterfly, flowers, swirls etc. I paint it in light colours so the smudging doesn't look as bad. It has to be really simple too as a lot of people end up requesting what I have (especially older girls and adults!)

Re: Do you paint yourself for work?
I live in a hot place so 3/4 sleeves would be to hot for me. So cap sleeves are great for me. It's freezing cold for us at the moment much more than usual so am all rugged up. One of my regular little customers wanted to know where my painting was on Saturday. So they do notice.

Re: Do you paint yourself for work?
I always do my eyes...bigger one on the right and something complimentary on the left. It draws the people in when they see that you can actually paint. ;D My dd told me this morning before I headed to the market that my facepainting gets better every week thanks to all of you and the books I got from the swap shop orders I got. Today's was the tribal abstract tiger from the Mark Reid book I got from SuzySparkles. I got a LOT of compliments on it today.

Re: Do you paint yourself for work?
I seldom (only once) paint my face.
I have had hives daily for the last year and a half. In the last 8 months they erupt on my face/scalp as much as anywhere else. Plus the fact that there's no set time that they decide to show up.... Being as I tend to rub my face during such times, I don't paint my face.
Luckily for me, when they show on my face they're mild - sadly, everywhere else, they welt terribly. bleh
I do try to paint a design on my arm(s).

Re: Do you paint yourself for work?
Geez Kat that's terrible, how uncomfortable that would be for you. Sad there isn't some solution to that for you. I'm sure you've tried it all.

Why thank you! Yes I am 50 and after being bent over in those chairs for hours I feel abuot 80. Man oh man. The rest of the time I don't feel anywhere near 50
Kat, that must be really frustrating. My heart goes out to you. (((hugs)))

Have you tried standing. I know it sounds crazy but I'm 46 and not in very good shape and I was able to do 22 hours by using the tall chairs. I still had to arch my back and touch my feet to stretch our my spine but I could even tell when the kids put their chins down...let alone trying to bend over in a chair.
I don't know if you have an IKEA close but they are discontinuing those 29" folding bar chairs soon and they are only $30.00. It's a good start any way.
