What to charge....Aussies!! Empty What to charge....Aussies!!

Hi all,
I know there are probably threads lurking about this, so apologies if I repeat, but I am finding it sooooo hard to decide on a price to start working. I have had many people asking for cards and how much do I charge, but I am struggling with this. I'm in Melbourne, so not sure how the rate compares to the rest of the world, but I was thinking of starting somewhere between $50-60 an hour. Is that good/bad?? And do some people do $70 for the first hour and then $50 for any others after that?? Or just same rate per hour with minimum of two?? And do you charge for travel time??

GAH...so many questions sorry!!!! I have reached the point where I have spent sooooo much money on paints and supplies that if I don't start earning soon I will be homeless with a really cool face painting kit!! Time to stop doing freebies for friends, but its hard to put a price, especially when you enjoy it so much if feels like you're cheating coz you're having fun!!!

Thanks in advance for your advice!!

Its market based - check out what others in Melb are charging - there are a few companies down there who have good websites. I am rural so I charge less than city folk as that seems to be what the market can handle. I generally do $75 an hour but then there is also possible extra for travel, gazebo hire, multi day discounts etc.

I also charge about $75 p/hour in Eastern Melbourne. I'm a mum and I considered upping my price but I had to realise where I was coming from and based my rates on what I (as a mum) thought was reasonable/affordable. I do charge more for sundays and p/hols.
