My First Butterflies Empty My First Butterflies

Post by EricaH Tue May 03, 2011 4:36 pm

So I've done a few butterflies on my loyal practice head and a couple on me that I haven't been super pleased with. I've also done a few on my arms and hands that I liked more. It seems when I go large scale I freeze up a bit. Anyways, after a number of cancellations I finally was able to paint my nieces this weekend Smile. They each picked their colors and let me at them. I haven't painted too many people so far so it was definitely good practice and they were all really happy with their butterflies. It didn't help that they were really nervous at first since they hadn't seen me paint before. Each girl became more relaxed after seeing the previous sister painted. I started with the youngest one and progressed to middle and then the oldest. Oh, and I also had my in-laws watching me paint for the first time (luckily they were impressed). I'm pretty happy with the blending and the shapes (I tried variations) and I was happy with the outlines of the wings until looking at others... I've watched even more videos now and have some more ideas on the edging. I'm hoping someday I'll look back on these and say "Oh, look how far I've come now!".

Thanks! I was pretty happy with how they turned out but I want to try some other methods for wing outlines and inner lines. My husband is starting to look at me strangely as I stop and inspect every butterfly object I come across.

I think your butterflies are very pretty!! Dont cringe or laugh to hard but Here are what mine look like. I need to work on blending and more colors!! I find it difficult and time consuming. They both were happy with the butterflies, luckily! . I love the way you leave space, my next butterflies will be more like yours! graceful

Hi Erica
I think that your butterflies are lovely and I especially like the blended colors of the blue and purple ones. I think you are doing well, but I guess your husband won't like to let you practice THOSE on him! Ha ha

Keep up the good work.

@Tara - Aww thanks for sharing your butterflies! The little girl is sooo adorable with her butterfly. Are you using a sponge or brush for blending? I use a sponge with one color on each end and just toggle back and forth and that seems to help and goes on fairly quickly. I also watched LOTS of youtube videos.

@Angela - Thanks!

@Evelyn - Thanks. Yes, the blue was very popular. My oldest niece wanted those colors too but she didn't want the same as her sister so she switched. And No, I won't be having a butterfly husband pic posted anytime soon Smile. I MIGHT get a spiderman out of him.
