Does anyone use these for bases? I've been trying it the last few days and found it to be somewhat easier to get get edges where I want, general placement of paint, keeps my fingers cleaner, etc. I realize they take up more space, but is there any other reason not to use them? Just curious about anyone's experience.

Are you referring to a maxi brush?
I use a maxi brush in order to get a quick rainbow circle, which I then use as a base for fish.

I'll also sometimes use it for the fast 'tribal' tattoo look for when I need SUPER AMAZING FAST!

Actually, no...I've read the whole mop thread Smile

I meant the rectangular ones for bases for say, a tiger...

Do you mean the ones that are rectangular, pointed at the tip and come in a range of widths and are on a stick? Clash uses these for her far out split cake designs. I have tried with some but I really think they have to be the best quality ones(high density) you can get. I got some and I just can't get the hang of them just yet but mine aren't a great quality. I would just stick to using your regular sponge for bases, and grab one to try with your splits. I don't think they are suitable for single colour basework.

They are okay. Clash sent me one to try, it worked for smaller designs, but I wouldn't bother with it on a full face design.

If you want an edge with your sponge, try the Snaz petal sponges. they are a great shape for splits!

Clash(Anna) uses them, but I've never quite figured out how to use them. Hmmm... I have the petal sponges too & should revisit them. I got them when I 1st started painting & was clueless on how to use them Embarassed

The petal sponges look like a great shape. I realize it probably would et easier with practice. I'm just not getting the control I'd like with the half round. I suppose I could get the car wash sponge and cut it in similar shapes; is there any reason to get the snaz over doing that?

Also, do you mean Anna uses the square ones with the handle for full face bases? I've seen her videos using them with splits.

I just got one of those from Michaels, it is the square one. I painted a butterfly with a rainbow cake (didn't take a pic Sad) . A little tip, spray your sponge and swipe the cake.
