I am just getting started in the face painting world and would like to know what everyone thinks are the necessities in starting out. I know when people are new to things they sometime aquire things that they really didnt need at all. I would like to skip that step...lol. Any advice would be great. Thanks in advance.

It is really hard to tell what you need at first... and as nice as it may be to skip that first step you can never know what is going to suit you until you try them out.

For me the things, that going back I wouldn't buy again, would be too much of one thing.. too many cheap brushes, too many of each brand of paint (you only really need a few small pallets of each to work out what brand you like)
I started fairly slowly with just a basic Snaz pallette and as I needed things I would extend my kit.

Also things that I wished I had heard about when starting out.. the green sponges, wolfe black and white and split cakes!

THanks a bunch for the info. I learn more on this forum from reading webpages on line.

I started with paradise myself... but it was not cheap.

They are selling some face paint at Michaels now, $20 bucks for the basic colors and people were saying they are pretty good paint.
That might be a good starter pallet?

Must haves for me:
Poof glitter (makes everything better)- Silverrainbow if you are only going to buy one
A rainbow cake (split cakes are the best)
High density sponges (10 to start with. they are round, cut them in half and you have 20)
1 inch brush
Big Round Brush(#5 round)
small round Brush (#1 Round)
This and a Basic Pallet and you are good to go.

Thanks for the information. I just placed my first order for paints so we will see what I can come up with. With five kids, I'm sure I won't have a shortage of faces to paint.LOL

My Michaels and Hobby Lobby also sells snaz small kits. Grab a sunday paper coupon for 40% off and the will be like 8 or 9 $. Michaels also sells the tulip paints, but because of staining I would opt away from all but the black , and white.

Here's the link to the post where Suzysparkles demonstrated the tulip for us

I recommend getting GOOD brushes...that way you don't have to buy more later...a good #4 & #6 round, #8 round, and a good 1/4 inch flat or a 3/4 in also. and a nice thin liner for line work.
I use mostly Paradise and snaz--but the ones that use Wolfe and tag love them--I will get those when I run out of what I have now. And yes, black and white are the most essential 2 to have. Ditto to all the above. Good luck!!!
