Re: Fairy Facepainters...
Cat your wings are AMAZING! I really love the smaller ones that sit high on the back- so unique (and might not Knock over my water pail!)
Re: Fairy Facepainters...
My goodness Cat! I love all of them, you are so talented.
My favorite is the fairy dog, so darn cute. That last picture of the 2 girls is to die for.

They're wonderful.

Re: Fairy Facepainters...
I agree... you guys are so amazing with your costumes! I'm the worlds worst actor, so I have a really hard time being a character for kids, but I can see how being in costume would be alot more fun for them, and might help get some gigs. I'm definitely going to start working on putting something together! Thanks for all the inspiration!
Re: Fairy Facepainters...
All the fairies and wings - wow!!
I have shied away from dressing as a fairy for two reasons - one because I'm a bit of a Tom Boy and feel really stupid dressed as a fairy.... so if I can't convince yself what hope do I have convincing a bunch of kids...
and two and really the most important....
Are you putting yourself out of jobs by promoting yourself as a fairy?
I mean.... I'm sure most boys don't want a fairy at their party... so mabey those clients just don't call you..... unless you do mulitple costumes.... and coporates like I did an all day open day for Porsche Yesterday and it was a coporate enviroment.... They actually checked that I didn't dress up.
I have lost maybe two jobs in a year because I refused to dress up.
Goes like this...." do you dress as a clown?"
me- " I"m not clown"
them- 'yes I know - but will you dress up as one?"
me - "no - cause I"m not a clown'
them - "will you dress as a fairy then?"
me - "no I'm not a fairy, I'm a facepainter"
them- so what do you dress up as?"
me - " me"
them - "what?"
me -"me - I come as me- happy colourfull Tash. Love it or leave it."
them-" oh ok so will you wear a purple and silver disco suit?"
me - " I'm hanging up now"

Re: Fairy Facepainters...
We've all had this happen, A customer calls and asks "what else do you do? (as if face painter extraordinaire were not enough- Sheesh!) And it's nice to be able to have this available as a little extra service- even if you don't want to offer it all the time.
Re: Fairy Facepainters...
Love, love, love all the fairies...

Re: Fairy Facepainters...
OMG! Me dressed as ANYTHING and pole dancing! The pole would be ripped outta the floor or fall off the ceiling!!!!!!!
I can see the newsflash!! 4 injured as fat flying poledancing bigfoot squashes crowd when pole becomes detached from moorings! No deaths were reported. Pictures at 6pm followed by eyewitness statements!
I am thinking of doing the fairy now! But I think that I would look like the 'bibbity bobbity boo' aunti faries from Sleeping Beauty!! Or was that Cinderella (sp)?

Re: Fairy Facepainters...
hahahaha ur so funny Kim! i am also a "big girl" so can totally envision the crushed audience scene hehe. i think i could perhaps dress as Mavis Prewitt(sp) the fat fairy from willow the wisp hehehe showing my age now! i am still new to doing fp for $ so think i would be even more jittery if i went as a fairy. hate the idea of being laughed at. though i might give it a little go 4 my nieces birthday, she would get a kick out of it
Re: Fairy Facepainters...
I'd knock the poll over
I'd like to get some simple elegant wings & a light weight fairy outfit. In florida, too much costume can be dangerous. I figured that out a few years ago in full clown w/ 90+ degrees in a park. I was out for a week from near heat stroke.

Re: Fairy Facepainters...
Cat, those wings are GORGEOUS! I love all the photos of you! I really like that multi-layered multi-colored skirt you're wearing in the picture of you in front of the water (ocean?, lake?) Did you make it?
Re: Fairy Facepainters...
Hey... I've been "The Fairy Godmother" in three shows on stage... And I am not in anyway "petite".... although I do tend to be a COMEDY fairy
Size isn't a problem... it's what you do with it
I wouldn't want to work in wings though, I sit to paint and it just would be too cumbersome.
I do offer "characters" for face painting (for extra charge) but it is in the small print on my webpage... I don't make a point of offering them when speaked to the customers though. If they ask I will list the characters. I can do Fairy, Princess, Witch, Gypsy, Cowgirl, Disco Queen, Alien, Star Trek, Pirate, Auguste Clown, Grim Reaper...

Re: Fairy Facepainters...
This talk does have me thinking of different ways I can dress up for jobs. Not full costume but maybe crazy hair and a themed outfit or something. I'm checking out cyberlox again. Totally not my normal style, but facepainting allows for some eccentricities right? LOL.
Re: Fairy Facepainters...
I don't think it's necessary to go all-out, but why not at least offer it if it is just the difference between throwing on a puffy shirt and bandana? It's not like learning a new skill like balloon twisting or anything, just dressing up. I like the idea of costumes being an extra though. I don't think I would like having to always be a fairy.
Re: Fairy Facepainters...
Ta!
Another reason I like the wings is they give me 'space' in crowds/ queues, they stand back to look and not get bumped/ bump into me.
That skirt was from a fair-trade shop, think it was made from recycled saris in Nepal?
So yes, check out the arty/ hippy/ traveller type shops there is SO much that is adaptable. I do go the skirt with leggings of some sort option a lot, and 1 of my fave winter fairy outfits ends with a zip-up body warmer made of extra long blue fun fur. Anything goes as long as its colourful and not 'normal'.
Re boys parties; I have a rainbow fairy outfit that is superbright with rainbow non-glitter wings, I have sort of flared leggings under a skirt. They love it...must be the ears.
Re daft requests: I did lose 1 party as they wanted to know if I could provide tables. My own table? Yes, of course. No, tables for all the guests - and silverware.
