Need photo cropping program
My favorite photo cropping program is not compatible with Vista (drat!) so I need a program that will easily crop photos to a standard 4x6 shape/size. Anyone know of a free download out there that will do this?
Photoshop users, I have photoshop but haven't found an easy way to do this. I want to just choose the size (4x6) and have the cropping square come up, move it around as I want it, and click CROP. Any ideas? Thanks!

Re: Need photo cropping program
You should be able to pre-set the size.... what version are you using? I've got CS3 and will go see if I can figure it out.

On the camera you mean? Mine is a Sony Cybershot 7.2. Hmmm, I didn't think of that. I'll go check it out. I'd still need to crop it on my PC to zoom in and cut out stuff I don't want in the pic though.

CS3 is the Photoshop version I have. I meant you should be able to pre-set a frame or something for cropping... I'm still learning PS so don't know exactly for sure, but I know we did something like that in class...
My Cybershot is a DSC-W50!

Re: Need photo cropping program
I use Photoshop Elements 5.0 and in the top left corner when I have the crop tool selected there's a drop-down menu with size options, and also two blank spaces where I can put in the size... not sure how that translates to other versions though.
Re: Need photo cropping program
yeah, you should be able to set the ratio that you are cropping... I use Gimp, but it's basically an open source photoshop type program. There should be two boxes that might already have numbers around a thousand or so that show the pixels of the current picture, you can replace them with the aspect ratio that you want (4:6 or 6:4 depending on the orientation) and your crop tool should keep those proportions as you drag it.
Re: Need photo cropping program
In Photoshop CS3 (any version really), click on the crop tool...there is a drop down window (usually at the top-left corner of your monitor). Enter your height, length, and resolution. Then to the left of your dimensions (next to the crop symbol) there is a tiny little arrow. Click on that arrow. This will open all of your presets. Then click on the arrow in the top-right corner of that window....click "New Tool Preset". It will then be saved there for future use.
As you drag the tool over your photo to size, it will keep it proportional to your 4x6 size. So you can size it up, down, and move the box around.
I hope this helps.

Re: Need photo cropping program
Oh, great! Okay, that was easy. I fixed it in Photoshop as you all suggested. If I'd been using my brain I probably could have figured that out. Photoshop is overwhelming for me so I tend to block out everything but the basics.
Sorry, didn't know what CS3 was. The version? Mine is Photoshop 7.0.

I have photoshop too, well elements and didn't know this was an option. YEAH. Sounds like we need to have a photo manipulation area.
Re: Need photo cropping program
Hey thanks... now I don't have to try to figure it out! Photoshop is NOT user friendly!

Re: Need photo cropping program
I think Gimp is easier to crop in than Photoshop. And it is legal to use, without you have to spend a lot of money =)

I use a program called paint.net. It is a free download and user friendly.
