Painting at a Medieval Market... Please Help?? Empty Painting at a Medieval Market... Please Help??

Post by Daizy Mon Feb 07, 2011 3:35 pm

Ok I have just checked my calendar for next weekend and have realised I have been so busy focusing on everything else that I have forgotten all about the big Medieval Market I am painting at on Saturday.
I have no idea where to even start preparing... I have no idea what to paint and they prefer it if your set up fits in with the whole events medieval theme... even costuming for me... eek!
Any help with set up or face painting designs would be greatly appreciated Smile

On this one, don't paint the owl and just use the helmet.

princess crowns, edges of helmets, card suits (they did play cards pretty early)...
even painting on jewelry is a good idea.

I've done a few things with my SCA group, I printed my signs out on parchment coloured paper in a calligraphy type font. You can use some wrapping paper rolls and stuff to try and make your chair look like a throne.

Good luck with it!

Daizy, here are some medival costumes that I made so you can get ideas on what to wear - Medival Costume Designs

Your art is fantastic, your line work is what will make anything you do fit with the theme. Good Luck Lauri

Daizy you could also wear a fairy costume, pirate costume would fit in really good...the party stores are starting to have their costumes in stock all year round..at leat the party store here does.. i believe its a party city..

a gypsy would also be a good costume.....long skirt lots of gold chain belt
put a silk scarf around your head..lots of braclets..easy fix...
good luck..I would think painting priates, fairies, i would think just about anything would go with painting the kids

Probably anything but a robot would be fine. LOL! I used to work at the Renaissance Faire, and at that period of time they were into things like purses and jewelry made to look like bugs, butterflies, birds, etc. They used all kinds of jewels including pearls. Honestly, metalics and/or glitter may look a bit too modern if they're really really picky about being "period."

Oh I think flowers would be good too. Like you know the fairy flowers with ribbons streaming like a Guenevere theme and I agree butterflies, jewelry, swords, helmets and even lizards...heck, didn't they just pick em up of the ground and eat em live! LOL Just being gross. Every time I start thinking about boy paint stuff it just goes gross. I painted a fire breathing lizard Saturday on a kid that said he was a real knight so, that has to work right?

Oh, I know how about stars and moons for astronomy. Didn't they read the stars a lot? Maybe like some star jewelry or something???

For your costume. I do know how you can make a cheap halo. You can go to the $ store and get a garland of roses to make a crown with and then get like a roll of curling ribbon to tie around the back and let it trail. Put a ton there. I make these all the time for fairies and princesses for my performing arts class kids. They love them and they are very easy to make.

Also look up coats of arms, there are so many bits from them you can use, whole face, cheek art or even whole (simple!) coats of arms. Also loads of simple princess/ crown things even on boys.

horse-related stuff was popular too.

I only did 1 of the Medieval Fairs in the UK as they began insisting we had to have a medieval tent to work in and they cost a FORTUNE as well as not being easy to put up, or coming in a pop-up-version!
