Do you call to remind people about deposits
I tell people I hold the date for 48 hrs at which time they have to have a deposit in. I usually call them back if they havent placed one within the 48 hrs. I had a call over the weekend and I was very ill and wasnt thinking and realized after ending the call that I had no number or email address. I had told the person about the deposit. Its been 4 days and no deposit. I have no way of contacting her. 4 days with no deposit and no phone call from her.
Would I be wrong to book someone else for that date?
I have all the other information but I also dont want to assume she just forgot and show up at the party and be oops someone else is here. At the same time the day of the party I don't want to receive an agry call " where are you!"
Yeah I put myself in a bad situation here. What would you do?

Do you have the address? Do reverse search for the phone number. Or do a drive-by...
Or, since you have no deposit there is no booking - therefore, the contract is not complete.
It is up to you based on your policy regarding deposits. And since you did advise them of that I would tend to say it is not a firm booking.

I write in my booking form that once I receive the retainer fee, it is a confirmed booking. Since, I've spelled that out for them in the form... if I don't end up receiving it, then I don't consider that I am hired to do that event. I don't normally call the customers to ask again for the payment.

I go with my gut feeling on this sort of thing, because sometimes they truly forget, and sometimes they decide to go another route without letting you know. Most of the time I call though, just to be sure, especially if they've already given me the exact date, location, etc.
Do you have caller ID on your phone? Maybe you can go back through the numbers to find it. Did they give a name?

Re: Do you call to remind people about deposits
Can you mail her a postcard 'deposit' reminder...is there time? Also ask for them to call again to confirm if they still are interested in the date, as you have had other requests. Then you are off the hook either way if they continue to ignore you or not send a deposit.
Re: Do you call to remind people about deposits
Looked up on white pages, the number is not listed.
The party is this saturday.

Re: Do you call to remind people about deposits
you should be able to call information for an unlisted number?
Re: Do you call to remind people about deposits
If it is local, then a letter/postcard will get there in one day. I would send the card saying that was your only contact information (no phone given) and for them to please contact you before the party in order to confirm the appointment. You still should have time if it's that close.
You could also drop by the physical address and leave a note on the door or in the mail box if they have an outside mailbox.
Usually an unlisted number will not be given out, as it's unlisted for a reason. However if they just moved and have not gotten into the phone book yet, then information will be able to give it out.
