Re: Swollen reaction
I just read the posts from the Snaz forum and while people announced reactions, some said black, some said white, some said Snaz green...it kind of seems all over the place. Two people listed different batch numbers. I wouldn't call it a consensus. The one person who had over 10 kids react appeared to have used the same pot for all....contaminated? Bad batch? Think about how often one re-dips into black and white versus other colours - seems like a higher chance for cross contamination.
Bad batches can occur, allergic reactions can occur, companies can be slow in replying - but I still am waiting for some kind of evidence that would suggest their products are categorically unsafe to use? Not trying to be obstinate, just thorough, you know?

Thank you!
You know what is the worst? When you are painting at a gig and some brand new painter comes up to you and tells you with the snottiest attitude that they ONLY use Snazaroo b/c it is the only safe product out there.
It all stems from misinformation on all the different forums. So annoying.

Re: Swollen reaction
This is interesting because, this weekend I have had several parent tell their kids they could not get face painted because of the bad reaction they had to getting painted before. I was able to ask one lady about it and she said that the paints had come from the party store and I told her that stuff was totally different. But, I did hear it a lot through out the weekend. So, I am wondering do that many people REALLY have a reaction or is that something that parents just say when they don't want to pay for it?
Also, is there a way to check your paints? I mean is there something to purchase that can test the level of bacteria in your paints? And, do you guys throw out any Snaz when it is at the 18 month mark or do you continue to use it for longer? I go through my Wolfe paints really quickly but, I have some Snaz paints that have lasted forever I bought at Halloween a year ago. So in April should I just chuck them out? They are just so barely used but, if they "go bad" then I want to toss and buy new ones.

Re: Swollen reaction
I know I'm still a noob, but don't discount the possibility that something you picked up from the client's face ended up in the paint pot. I mean, even if it's a kid that doesn't wear makeup, you've still got whatever they've had on their faces, whatever lotion/perfume they wear, food residue you can't see with the naked eye, scotchguard from a car seat, etc. Heck, it could even be residue of what you washed your brushes/sponges in...Just saying.
Re: Swollen reaction
There is the possibility that it was someone who was putting bleach or some other crap in their water... it could be that it was the cheap junk paint (yes, there could easily be a lot of reactions to that stuff). If they were using professional face paints, properly, you might get one or two kids in a hundred that have a mild reaction... any more than that and there is probably something wrong with the products or procedures.
I know that not everyone agrees on certain brands being more allergenic than others, but if you ARE worried about reactions, avoid anything with strong smells, be aware that if someone is allergic to NSAIDs topically that a reaction can occur with wolfe/tag/dfx/etc, and you may want to ask if the child is allergic to any food colourings/dyes as they use the same ingredients for our colours. There is almost nothing in this world anymore that there isn't SOMEONE that is allergic to it... our society has just gone that way somehow. So anyone who says they've NEVER had anyone with a reaction, just isn't finding out about the reactions that happen. We all paint so many kids that there are bound to be a couple mild to moderate ones at some point.
JMHO, not trying to lecture or anything.

I'm pretty sure that the 2 year shelf life for Snaz is based on the fact that it hardens and cracks after so long, and not because it goes "bad". Someone correct me if that's wrong.
