Re: how good is Fabbulas
I would say it is very beneficial. You can get in several classes a day with jams every night. You can check out henna, balloons, face and body painting as well as glitter tatts. There will be an opportunity to buy paints on the spot rather than the net and because it is a much smaller convention(100 attendees as appossed to 500 or so) you will have a much better chance to really spend some time with the instructors.
I have never been to the larger ones but heard many comment last year that they were thrilled with how intimate and friendly the atmosphere was rather than rather than the lost in the crowd feeling they felt at some of the larger ones.
If you are able to drive to save the airfare, I would think it would be a huge loss not to come.
Contact the convention organizers to see if they might hook you up with a roomate. Who knows, they may have a list of folks looking.

Re: how good is Fabbulas
Fabbulas was my first convention, and I felt it was a terrific opportunity to learn from the pros first hand while networking with other painters. Not to mention the opportunity to pick up and look at supplies before buying them and getting your questions answered on the spot.
I loved the instructors, the jams, the comraderie. I think any level painter would gain a lot from the experience.
Plus the price includes your meals which is fantastic. Cyde did a great job organizing the event this year. And it was great to meet Matina and others from the Forum too!

Getting lost in the crowd was my big fear, I thought I was going to feel intimidated too, but I felt sooo comfortable.
Also, I had only met Pashur before (he's an awesome person,) so I was nervous to find out if the other instructors would be "Mr/Mrs Snooty World Renowned Artist" ya know?
It was a welcoming, comfortable feeling the whole time and all the instructors were down to earth and humble...so refreshing!!
Syd and her staff did such a great job making everything happen.
Re: how good is Fabbulas
Here's my first body paint on someone I'm not related to. DanaBee and I were going to share his back, but she was getting painted by Pashur and didn't have time which is why I stayed over to the side, but I actually dig it that it's only on one side.

Re: how good is Fabbulas
Anyone know the deal with registration for Fabbulas 2011? I want to bring my son for his birthday this year.
Re: how good is Fabbulas
Fabbulas 2011 is NOT taking place.
I e-mailed them recently and they told me. They said they will be back next year though.

No,
this is the reply I got:
Hello Laura,
I apologize for not responding sooner, we are not holding Fabbulas this year but will bw returning in 2012.
I had been looking foreward to it as well. Especially since I couldn't make it to FABAIC and Sean Avram told me it would be well worth going to Fabbulas. Oh well, maybe next year. I did register for Kapital Kidvention though, so I hope I will get much out of that. :-)

Any new Fabbulas conventions planned for rest of 2011 or 2012?

Re: how good is Fabbulas
Wish there were more face painting events like there are clowning and magic events all over the country. We've had Marsela at Clown Jam here in Branson the last 2 years. Would like more within driving distance because can't afford airfare.
Re: how good is Fabbulas
There is a convention in CT January 11-15 with pre and post classes. I think Chit-Chat the clown is putting it on, and I am going with ladies from my guild. It has night time classes as well! Priced reasonably, it's $130 for all 4 days of classes and breakfast is included in the room price. Meals are not included, but the hotel is owned by a face painter I'm told and the room rates are very good! Just Google Chitchat the clown all the info ison her website.
