Okay so here goes
It's been recommended to me after exhausting all (and I mean all) options that I have a (depending on where you're from) total or sub-total colectomy. For anyone who doesn't know what that is it's taking out your large colon/intestine. The plan would be to connect my small colon to my pooper. The reason is for severe slow transit constipation (see, I did say TMI).

Anyways, I'm hoping that someone on here knows someone or something about the after part of this procedure. I've read loads and loads and there's people out there on forums saying that they wished they'd never had it done and whinge whinge whinge but I imagine that the successes are out enjoying their life not sitting on their computer googling 'colectomy'.

It's such a major op that I'm super scared and want to make a really informed decision.

Thanks in advance
Kristen

Polyps can be super scary too. Did you have yours removed?

So many people have pooper issues fortunately most aren't too serious. I'm one of those really lucky ones who gets a problem like mine. Basically everything stops when it gets to my large colon that they only way of getting it out is the slow clogged up push along.

No that's TMI!!!

Kristen, my son at 22 (8 years ago) had IBS so bad he had his large intestine removed and a temporary stoma for several months and then his small intestine was reattached to his "pooper". He has to be careful with what he eats and still feels the need to know where a bathroom is at all times, but he is so glad he had it done. You can message me if you want to ask more and be a bit more graphic with the language ok? Carolyn

I know nothing of these things. BUT... I found a very helpful resource/group of people when I was first diagnosed with a rare disorder. www.dailystrength.org is an on-line support group, and they have groups for just about anything you can think of. There might be one for folks with what you are dealing with and I've found the people on there are soo helpful with sharing their experiences.

Good luck! I hope everything goes well.
