How much should I charge? Empty How much should I charge?

I got a call yesterday from a guy who wants me to paint his prosthetic halloween mask. I can take the mask and have it for a couple days to work on it. He might also want me to come over before his big party to finish his paint for him, but technically I'm already booked to paint a few other people that evening, as long as they get my contract back to me. He sent 3 pictures and said I could make it look like any of these and he'll be happy. He wants to know how much I'll charge... what do you think? I don't think I'll be able to do his whole head that saturday, so the price would just be for the mask itself. I believe the actual mask is what is shown in the first picture...

I would charge $40-50 for that painting. it is very detailed. OR you can paint less detail for $25. That is what I would charge. It looks pretty time consuming. I bet you spend close to an hour on that one. Very detailed.
I would love to see pics when your done.

are you applying it to him and painting the surrounding skin to match as well?? I would presume that you would have to do it all at once to make it consistent... I don't think it would look right to do the mask at a different time than the rest of it and I don't know how well regular face paints would do this kind of work. I would think that an oil based theatrical makeup would be necessary to get it quite right. Just my thoughts though, I've never worked with that kind of prosthetic before.

Hmmm... Perry that is a good question... I was planning a trip to the local costume shop tonight anyway so I'll have to ask them about the type of paint you should use. I just assumed face paint would be ok, but it's better to check. And he said he might want me to finish his painting once it's on, but I'm already booked that evening to paint some other people for their costumes, so he would probably have to do it himself. I would most likely just do the mask itself.

you would probably need to use grease paint.. I dont think a waterbase faces paint to adhear to the rubber..just my thought.. from doing wounds with latex... grease paint and set with powder and use different colors of eyeshadow for the conturing.. ck out some vids on youtube for that kind of make up..good luck send pics
