Smoothie Blender question
Hi all: When usuing the starblends with the smoothie blenders, how do you sanitize them between faces? I mean, those things are very expensive, and you can't use a new one with each kid, can you? I know I can't afford that! And if you try to rinse it off or sanitize it, then it becomes wet and you can't reuse it on the powders. What do you all do? thanks!

Re: Smoothie Blender question
I don't know anything about the starblends but I use a fresh sponge on each child and my brushes are rinsed twice once to get the paint of and once more with some and once with the brush bath solution in water which has cleansers in it that are safe for the face and body. I don't know how you apply them but I would think if your using a fresh applicator or a just cleaned applicator you don't have to do that. They do may UV lights now that you can hold over a surface and it kills everything they are like 50.00 in US.
Oh and I also don't paint visibly sick people at all I will give them a temp tattoo if they want one for smaller charge.
Some people will do arms etc but I have seen kids sneeze and use their arm to wipe their noses so I don't do that either not anymore.

Re: Smoothie Blender question
A smoothie blender is a special flat shaped sponge on a handle, made for use with the starblend (dry) powders. Think eyeshadow applicator, only larger. They are too expensive to use a fresh one on each kid, and you can't get them wet between kids.

Re: Smoothie Blender question
If you are using the Starblends DRY you should be able to reuse the sponge blenders WITHOUT washing between people. I don't use them, but when doing make-up at the theatre we spray down the blush and powder brushes with straight 70% isopropyl alcohol between people and they dry quickly.

Re: Smoothie Blender question
There is a company that sells a spray you can use for powder makeup. Makeup artists use it. I'll have to see if I can find the name

Alcohol works and is MUCH cheaper than those commerical sprays (which it is an ingredient in!)

Re: Smoothie Blender question
I just bought some disposable eye shadow applicators. I'm going to try those out with my Ben Nye Lumiere powders. I don't like the idea of using the same applicator over and over, especially since a lot of the designs involve the eye area.

Re: Smoothie Blender question
Those are great, I have them too. But not practical for covering large areas. I will try using the alcohol. I don't see why I couldn't spray the smoothie blender as well as the starblend.

Re: Smoothie Blender question
U may want to think about investing in a uv disinfector if the disposable ones don't work.

Re: Smoothie Blender question
I use Starblend powders & smoothies in the summer. I spray them w/ alcohol like Shannon says. When I get home I wash them just like I do my brushes. I wash them w/ Ivory soap & rinse them well with water. I then dunk them in alcohol & let them dry completely. This cleaning process does wear them out faster than not cleaning them, but I'd rather replace them 1-2 times a year than give someone a rash or eye infection. I also clean my brushes & mops this way.
Re: Smoothie Blender question
I agree with Psalm....I'll shell out the additional $6.00 (per smoothie) for the POM from unnecessarily passing on something from one person to the next.

Great! Thanks!
