HEELLPP! 'HELLO KITTY' TAT DISASTER!

Oy ...!

I ordered these AMAZING, beautiful Hello Kitty tats from GlimmerArt ( http://www.glimmerbodyart.us/ ). The EYES and NOSE weren't part of the stencil. ARRRGH! The kid was almost crying. It was a MESS. I have no idea how to work with stencils that have 'floating' parts!!

The GlimmerArt store people said 'floating pieces ARE tricky". They were SO right! They were very generous and allowed me to keep these and replaced the tats with some 'normal' ones.

Anybody know how to work with these floating pieces??

The trick is to add the floating pieces after you apply the full stencil. Position them where they should go and then apply your glue. Once the glitter is applies fish them out with tweezers.
The trick is to have a photocopy of the stencil with your kit. That way you know if you got all the pieces out.

I did just that, however, I must have left the floating pieces in for too long: THEY YANKED HALF THE STENCIL OFF WITH THEM!

The Faketoos Hello Kitty works pretty well. I did 3 of them over the weekend without any issues of floating parts.

When you are applying the glue be extra careful not to cover up the floating peices so that when you do apply the glitter you can still see the parts you need to remove.

I use square tipped tweezers to remove the parts.

Eve, I'm sorry you're having problems with the kitty. I keep a rounded toothpick out when I do my stencils solely for the purpose of picking out the floating parts.

When I receive my stencils, I use a squeegie like thing and wipe it over each stencil to make sure that all of the pieces are firmly adhered to the clear film, that way when I peel off the backing, it's all there. When I apply the glue, I'm just careful about not painting over the entire floating piece so that can find it after applying the glitter and I remove those first.

It does take practice, but after a little bit of that, you become an old pro. You should also familiarize yourself with your stencils so you will know which come with floaties...I find that that helps as does having my menu board I made where I can see it so I can judge if the design looks the way its supposed to. Don't give up...you will not be bested by a piece of adhesive backed mylar.

for stencils with floating pieces i press them with a squiggie (faketoos gave me) then i take the back off, usually the pieces stick to the clear part. then i lay the stencil down and put glue on. I take the stencil off including the floaters then i put the glitter on. when the glue dries on the stencil, the glitter tends to get pulled off when you take the stencil off as well...not as crisp. sometimes i use paint to make the yellow nose and black eyes

Can't say I've ever run across such a thing with airbrush tattoo stencils - there are plenty of 2-stage stencil designs which are expressly done that way to AVOID floating pieces. For instance, a graphic of a lion's head might have one stencil for the head outline while the second stencil has the facial features.

Wanted to share another idea. I just created a mica tattoo and added a semi-sheer glitter overlay. My camera is dead so I took a flipvideo to share. Glitter Tattoos never look as awesome in photos or videos, darn it.

Apply glue, dry--apply mica powder.
Apply thin layer of glue, dry--apply thin layer of iridescent (semi-sheer)



That's my very vocal daughter in the background. haha
