getting nervous for my first bodypaint
well...I was very nervous before I did my first bellypaint...it felt very intimate....now I'm gonna paint my sister...although I know her very well, I'm still kind of intimidated by the thought of painting her...I made a design today based on my ed hardy bellypaint, since I really liked that style...the theme is flowers...so I'm gonna add lots of roses ed hardy style...
I have to practice at least one time to find out how long it will take approx...I have about 5 to 6 hours to make it...I'm gonna make a detailed front and back, left thigh, so I hope I have enough time...it's lots of outlining and shadowing...
I will probably stay very nervous about it, untill it's done and over with and I have a splitting headache!
no...I shouldn't think about it like that...it's fun to paint... it's going to be alright I'm sure...
how did you feel about your first bodypaint??

Re: getting nervous for my first bodypaint
You'll do great! I'm sure. I've never done a body painting, so I can't answer that, but go ahead & make up some healthy munchie trays for both of you so you don't have to take meal breaks. Just graze & keep hydrated.
Re: getting nervous for my first bodypaint
You'll have a blast. The first couple hours go by slow, but the last couple whiz by! It's hard to do the boring base painting in the beginning because you want to do get to the fun detail bits. I did my first one just over a week ago in a competition. I was kind of oblivious of the other painters because I was concentrating so much on my own design. I'm totally addicted now though. It's fun to figure out how to wrap a design a 3D canvas like a body.
Can't wait to see how it all turns out. I'm sure it'll be awesome!

Re: getting nervous for my first bodypaint
My first body painting was nerve racking. It's probably why I haven't done it again yet. Try to have fun and enjoy the experience. What I learned from my first was that preparation is everything! I went in with just a concept, but not an exact outline of what I wanted so I wasted a bunch of time figuring out how I liked things on the body and ran out of time to finish the nice details. My first one really wasn't finished so that is why I didn't like it. I've actually never shown anyone outside of my family the photos because I am so embarrassed by it. Have fun and I'm sure you'll do great!
Re: getting nervous for my first bodypaint
I got so nervous before my first bellypaint I nearly canceled. I'd probably faint before a bodypaint! Just have fun and don't let your nerves get the better of you! Good luck, and let us know how it goes...

The Ed Hardy belly paint that you did is out of this world awesome....actually, it's one one of the best I've ever seen. If you can paint a belly that well, you shouldn't sweat doing a body, afterall...it's just a couple more parts. I bet you will do excellent.

Re: getting nervous for my first bodypaint
If your belly painting is anything to go by you are going to do awesome!
Sorry no advice on how to conquer the nerves as I am yet to build up the courage to try it.
Can't way to hear how it turns out...

Re: getting nervous for my first bodypaint
Hmm... I draw out the design, visualize continually in my mind the whole painting process and timing, then paint it. I only practise paint detailed bits... like a bat face on my knee to check for timing, I don't practise the design itself. I'll screw it up the second time if I do.
You should be fine!! It is just MORE to cover!
My big concern the first time was painting the, er, private areas but the models were fantastic and it was all okay!

I got a great tip from Lucie Brouillard at her bodypainting class last week. She said have the model put their hand in their thong while you paint that area and then it's not so weird. Since I've only painted guys so far, I really appreciated that tip! (pardon the pun)
Here's a link to sketches to work out your design on:

Re: getting nervous for my first bodypaint
thanks for all the support...I'm not worried about the paiting itself...that should go just fine...but indeed the private parts...but I'm planning no details between legs and under arms..I drew out different details for the different bodyparts...I'm gonna practice the front once on my sister before and try out the colourcombinations I have in my mind...they also have blacklight so I'm going to do parts in neon...like the white textbanners and a snake that wraps all around the front and dwon her right leg...and offcourse the roses...the theme is flowers, so they should stand out!
I hope I will get everything done in time, because it all stands or falls with the black outlining! and shadowing...
I'm keeping the hands and feet simple...metallic black, blending into the silver background on arms and legs...also came up with a simple design for the face...have to think about a hat or wig...something with giant fake roses or something...
I have it all in my head...

Re: getting nervous for my first bodypaint
tried some colourcombo's I want to use...the letters are going faster and faster...I'm getting really excited about this!
Re: getting nervous for my first bodypaint
thanks...I also like the DfX metallic red...it's kinda pink...and I'm going to make my own splits for this...the neon yellow-magenta and purple looks very nice!
Re: getting nervous for my first bodypaint
Looks awesome so far! I can't wait to see pics of the finished product.
Re: getting nervous for my first bodypaint
You are a fantastic artist and I cant wait to see the final pics. I would be a nervous wreck too, but you are going to kick butt and take names!!
Re: getting nervous for my first bodypaint
I'm practicing my roses...and colours...made my own splitcakes in neon...
it will be ed hardy style...so they don't look really real...(if you know what I mean...)

Re: getting nervous for my first bodypaint
I'm so excited to see it. I loved the belly and now I find myself checking this post a couple times a day cause I can't wait to see the body!!!
Re: getting nervous for my first bodypaint
I think I posted about my first body painting here... totally nervous. I was silly enough to choose UV! It was about a year ago. Took me forever cause I couldn't get the consistency right, and I chose a geometric pattern. GAH! But I was fairly happy with the outcome.
Some notes:
Make sure there's music, snacks, and beverage (don't forget to eat!)
Plan for twice as long as you think it will take
Think about where you will take the pictures and have a good camera. Having a good background (maybe one that will go with the design) totally helps the image. It's so disappointing to see 6 hours of work get documented on a camera-phone.
Have tons of fun cause very few people in the world get to do what we do!

Re: getting nervous for my first bodypaint
well..there will be tons of photographers..also professional ones...so i shouldn't have to worry about the pictures...(I will take pictures myself...sort of step by step)
I'm only doing the neon, because they said there will be blacklight...so I want to use it in my design...
I don't know how long it will take me...but i have about 5 to 6 hours time for it...but I hope I'll have it done at least one hour sooner...but I'm practicing my drawings and details...(works faster on skin than on the practiceboard btw...)
tried another bigger rose with a goldeb background...but I'm going for the silver background!
and you have to wait untill after october 16th...that's when the bodypaint contest is...

Re: getting nervous for my first bodypaint

Re: getting nervous for my first bodypaint
