First time out... finally some hands-on experience!
So I volunteered to face paint at our local farmer's market. I did it totally for free - I really wanted to practise on some warm bodies, and this seemed like a good way to do it. My daughter painted at this market for two years, every Saturday, until she went off to university. And I shop there every week, so a lot of the vendors know me and seemed quite happy to see me.
I was sooooo nervous for the first few I painted. But all that practising on my arm and the practice head paid off. By the end of the four hours I was quite comfortable doing it. At the end of it, the market manager said I should not be doing it for free but should at least be asking for tips, so next week I will do that. As it was, several people tipped me even though I insisted that it was free - in total I made $18 in tips, and I got a basket of apples, and a gorgeous cherry cheesecake tart. I have decided that I will never knowingly charge any of the vendors' kids, but I will happily accept any of the yummy things they choose to send over.
Funny little story: One boy wanted to be painted as an egg. I said, "What, a white egg or a fried egg" and he said, "No an Easter egg". So I used my lovely rainbow cake (thanks Metina!) and did an all-around-face rainbow in an oval which I outlined. He was totally thrilled!! Afterwards it occurred to me that he looked like he should probably be in a gay pride parade somewhere, but I guess his mother (one of the vendors) didn't think so, since she was the one who sent over the beautiful tart!
I had so much fun, I can hardly wait till next week! On our way home, my husband and I stopped and bought me a FatMax (!). I said I didn't want to buy it until I knew for sure that I was going to really enjoy doing it... and I did... and it was on sale so how could I resist?

LOL at the gay pride part - love it! I'm glad you enjoyed your day, that's what it's all about! Can you imagine how fun it's going to be in the Fall the closer it gets to October? Those are my favorite months for face painting, everyone is really in the mood!
