Glitter Tats
Hey guys,
I'm considering getting into these - just wondering how difficult they are to do, whether or not they make you much money and what brand you prefer?
Thanks so much (PS: have done a similar post in the Glitter Tat section of this forum but as it appears to be new, not sure how many people are checking down there)

Re: Glitter Tats
I love doing the Glitter tattoos. Started doing those first, and just now doing face painting.
I have only worked with Glimmer Body Art and have become a distributor for them since I'm the only one in my area doing it. They are extremely easy to do and attract a lot of attention since they are so different than face painting. It's a nice alternative at parties where there is water involved. I've had parents tell me they preferred it to face painting since that comes off the same day and the glitter tattoos stay on from 3-7 days.

Re: Glitter Tats
Awesome, thanks - around how many times do you find you can really reuse each stencil? and are they difficult to get right - i've read on here about having difficulty getting them to look crisp every now and then
Re: Glitter Tats
I never re-use my stencils. In my opinion, it's not good business to re-use on different people (unsanitary). I never have trouble getting crisp lines with them with the exception of our summer heat here in Florida. I am having a little difficulty getting the stencils to stick to the skin and have the glitter stick everywhere and not be able to get it off to remove the beautiful design.
I put the stencil on, then glue then remove the stencil and then apply the glitter. That gives you crisp lines. I think they are just awesome and glimmer has a good variety of stencils and glitter. They even have some small kits so you can try it without breaking the bank.

Re: Glitter Tats
There have been extensive discussions on this topic in other threads. It is ok to re use stencils, but it comes down to your personal preference as to whether you do so or not. I find you can get maybe 3 uses out of them before the adhesive will not longer stick to the skin. I apply glue and gltiter prior to removing the stencil and have no issues with my edges being neat and crisp, but again that comes down to what will work best for you.
Re: Glitter Tats
I only like to reuse stencils on friends and family, not for customers. You charge them X amount for a reason= your time and your supplies. Suppose each stencil is about $.50 each and say use $.50 of glitter thats $1. Plus you pay yourself $1.50/tattoo, you still have $2.50 profit. In my opinion, I would be kinda grossed out if someone reused a stencil on me. With family it's different cause you know them...oh well maybe thats just me!
Re: Glitter Tats
I also use Glimmer Body Art's kit. It's not too difficult to learn and the teens really like them.

Re: Glitter Tats
thanks guys, does anyone have an opinion on http://amerikanbodyart.com/Glitter-Tattoo-Kits.html vs. Glimmer? you get 100 more stencils through Amerikan Body Art for $80 less, plus a few more extras.

I have the amerikan body art professional kit, I'm extremely happy with it. I swab the skin with an alcohol wipe first, then put the stencil on apply the glue, then the glitter & remove the stencil. Most of the stencils from this kit work well to be re-used. ie: I have bought some from faketoos & one of the skulls just can't be reused again due to the smaller parts ( the eyes & nose) these parts even stick very well to the skin & you really have to pick them off (with tweezers maybe) but once their off the design is awesome. Other stencils I have used again easily, as I'm wipping the skin with an alcohol swab I think this takes care of the hygiene issue. I think you'd get 3-4 uses out of one stencil.
Also when I placed my order with amerikan body art, I was delighted when my parcel arrived. As they had given me freebies as well, 2 sheets of self adhesive diamonte crystals, red liquid bling & small navy blue mika powder. You also get a really cool little bag as part of the kit which is perfect to keep all your glitter tatt stuff together. I haven't tried glimmer so I can't give you a vs opinion, but when I did the research before I purchased I felt for myself I was getting more for my buck from amerikan. Hope this helps.
Re: Glitter Tats
If you buy enough fo the wholesale rate it is so worth it - just placed a big order this week at Amerikan. I also use Glimmer for certain designs and have custom ones made by Linda Adams here on the forum. There are companies doing some really funky stuff rt now but for my customer at the moment I don't spend more than 36 cents a stencil.
Re: Glitter Tats
When glitter tattoos came out, I went to sallys beauty store and bought the $0.99 cosmetic glitter and made stencils out of stencil paper I bought at walmart to see how much I would use them before I had to buy an expensive kit. I did buy the adhesive from silly farm though. Anyway, I advertise them and offer them and have never had to upgrade to a kit because I get so few bookings for them.
Re: Glitter Tats
I get enough bookings to make it worth it, but it's because I have a 2nd entertainer(my daughter) doing them while I paint.
Re: Glitter Tats
I'm trying to convinced my husband to help me with the tatts. He refuses..LOL
