I just got a call from a farmer's market i contacted a while back and their kids area entertainment cancelled so they want me to come paint and do balloons. And if it goes well they want me every week!

AND

I got 2 other calls for infor for compnay picnics!! They are going to call me back by the end of the day!!

so I only charged the market $100 for 3 hours. I don't want to go any lower and she said she can't afford me every week, but it was great tonight. GOt some bites on some future things. I feel like my insides have been tied in knots for 3 weeks, its nice to have it released!!

That sounds like a very reasonable rate for that kind of thing. And a farmers' market is a great place to be seen and network with people.

That's great! How busy were you? I had a gig cancle on Sunday & may go to the farmers market that offered me a free space.

i always had at least one person waiting. its a brand new market so people are just finding out about it. And as more veggies get harvested, there will be more people. I dont think she is going to ask me back though because of my price.

Oh, i wanted to add......I has NOT been worth it to me to charge for the faces at the markets. Most of the people weren't going to do it til they found out it was free, and this was in a really well off part of town. They all tipped me really well after i painted thier kids, go figure.

Thant's why it's best to get paid from the market. I'm going to one today(only because of that cancelation). It's only going to cost me time & my back(I have to set up my canopy).

Well, if you feel you were busy enough, how would PPF be for you and just charge her a $30 supplies fee or something?

I am the facepainter at the farmers market here in Grande prairie where i live. it is a year round indoor market. i charge per face or body art and it goes really well. i always have a line up. you might be able to make a deal with the market manager so that you could go every week. i have a friend in a different city who's market lets her come and paint, and pays 10 percent of her earnings every week. She makes really decent money and the market gets to have her there every week in a more affordable way. She makes TONS of connections to other gigs too ! I do have repeat clients that come every week, and sometimes i have groups of children show up together. The amazing thing about the market is the variety of people a painter can have line up. It is a challenge every week, which i love ! The one thing that i started at the market that is going really well is the popstar mini makeover (or princess make over ) it includes a feather boa, glitter in the hair with a bit of hairspray, a faux colored hair clip in, and a facepaint design of the child's choice, for a package price or $ 20 They really go over well ! So, i just thought i would mention it , in case it is something you would like to try !

That sounds great! Our farmer's markets are fairly new & have very low attendance. I'm hoping this will change over time. I can't promise a market a weekly visit because I'm doing birthday parties all weekend. I'm glad I found one that will work w/ me on the few days I don't have gigs! I love the $20 pkg!
