I am now an official Face Painter!!
Well it’s official. I just got paid for being a Face Painter. I did my first birthday party. (Thanks to Suzy Sparkles for the referral !!!) It was for two hours. Very nice. Most kids wanted cheek art. I was very surprised at that.
It was quite a change from yesterday. I volunteered to face paint at our school reading carnival. I participated last year. I was told on Thursday that I would be the only one. (Usually there is 2 moms painting) At first I thought “SWEET!!” And then…. “Oh no.” Threw together my own display board to use instead of the dated one the school had and off I went Friday morning. I painted for 5 ½ hours and accomplished 102 face paintings. I think I did pretty well. I might never want to see another dolphin again for awhile but am happy with the outcome.
I received a lot of compliments and was able to pass out a few business cards.
What did I learn between the two days? What brushes I like, and which ones I hate!!!! I immediately passed the ones I did not like on to my kids. Don’t worry they are not expensive ones. I then stocked up on a couple of nice brushes that I do like. (from the money I made at my partaay today).
I also came to the conclusion that I really don’t care for Snaz that much. I really wanted to like it. But, I am finding the little bit of Wolfe and DFX that I have is much more likeable. I will always keep Snaz red , white and black.
I prefer to stand then sit. I was so sore from sitting on a metal chair all day yesterday. I am use to moving around and using my body a lot for my “day job” and sitting in one spot does not work well for me. Plus I seem to be stooped over trying to paint these little faces.
I didn’t have to learn this, I am already pretty assertive but I got to tactfully tell some shmuck of a kid to leave the line and not go back. A teacher saw what I did and gave me the thumbs up. Yea for me!!!
Okay that’s my story. Thanks for reading.

Initiation??
Sounds more like a firing squad test of endurance! Good for you! Crowd events are a great way to learn a lot on your feet! Sounds like you survived and came away with some definite preferences of what works best for you! Hopefully you get lots of great referral business - let the birthday party parade begin! Good for you!!

Congratulations! Talk about speedy...girl that's 20 faces an hour, you are a speed demon. Keep it up. Next year they pay, at least for supplies!
Congrats on the paid job too!
NO NO NO don't give up the brushes. It's only this time that you don't like the brush. It's really gotta not work at all before you get rid of it. I find that right now one of my favorite brushes is an inexpensive #2 that I bought for less then a dollar, and next to it is my $40 Winsor Newton pointed round that I got on sale for about $20. I find that even at different events, indoor outdoor hot cold humid that the way the paints and brushes react changes what you use and how you use it. So keep the brushes, and you will find that you will use them again.
