Re: Jewels and other things
hi, i found some water soluable spirit gum from krylon that works great. ive heard of some painters useing false eye lash glue, but seeing as i dont wear them i dont have any to try, lol.
Re: Jewels and other things
I don't tend to use them. But when I have I've used eyelash glue.
Generally I don't bother with them though - too many fall off and the kids want them replaced.

Re: Jewels and other things
I use the ones from silly farm that already come with a sticky back, but i believe it was Michelle from Bright and Shining Face Painting that suggested using the body glitter tattoo glue to use. Good luck!
Re: Jewels and other things
DON"T use body glitter glue that is supposed to be long lasting! And often not for face. Prob ok if applied over paint but then why bother as it won't stick when the paint gets sweated of.
I don't use them either on kids; and the paper sheets of peel off jewels are a waste. Often they refuse to come off the paper and if you do get 1 off, refuse to stick to kids. And as Shannon said, its another reason for kids to come back wanting things fixed. noooo!
When I was a beginner i had a phase of sticking on feathers and sequins with snaz spirit gum. Whatever brand you get, if for kids, make sure its not the extra strength and IS water soluble.
For adults/ special faces I often use swarovski crystals with eyelash or spirit gum glue

Re: Jewels and other things
I use self sticking ones.. I just remove the paint where I'm gonna stick them so that they stick better.
I love the tiny clusters of them that they sell in the scrapbooking section

Re: Jewels and other things
Ashley, Those jems from the scrapbooking section use craft adhesive glue...have you had any bad reactions from them on the kids? I was thinking of buying the little round adhesives to put on big jems. I used it on my self and family and everyone seems ok...
Re: Jewels and other things
I use the glitter tattoo glue and give them a alcohol pad to remove it later, I also explain to parents first.... and they can decide.
Re: Jewels and other things
Bloody Mary water-soluble spirit gum. Sticks like crazy, and washes off with soap and water.
Re: Jewels and other things
Would rubber cement be ok? LOL I use it for balloons as it dries instantly to them! LOVE IT for Balloons!
Re: Jewels and other things
I have never use them, I want to try them but I don't know which ones or where to get them.. Which ones you guys recomend? :

Re: Jewels and other things
I am just now starting to experiment with gems too. I recently began carrying them in my online store and have posted a couple photos of me applying one on my blog here:

I have the Kryolan eyelash adhesive and that seemed to work great! At least with my first attempt, it stuck right away and stayed until I took it off. The adhesive is a little expensive though for such a small tube, so I need to experiment to find the minimum amount needed to stick them. I'll have to check into spirit gum...haven't seen that before! But, I figured it's always best to use stuff that is made to be used on the skin in the first place.

Personally, I can't stand the self-sticking ones that you buy, they stick for maybe two minutes and then they fall off or get sweated of; that is if they stick at all. I make my own self-stick gems by taking the gems and wax paper and sticking the gems to the wax paper with eyelash glue. They peel right off and the eyelash glue stays tacky like, forever!

Re: Jewels and other things
I use sequins instead of jewels and I use a bottle of iridescent glitter glue. It dries clear but sparkly and I have very few that need to be replaced.

Real glue? or glue meant for the skin?

Re: Jewels and other things
It says "water based glitter paint". So I guess its not glue but it sticks well.

Re: Jewels and other things
SO.... it is NOT cosmetic? You ready for a lecture???? Because "water based glitter paint" IS NOT FOR THE SKIN!!

Re: Jewels and other things
I did a test on my inner forearm, and after 5 days both gems were still on strong! I used Mehron adhesive and glimmer glitter tattoo glue. I liked them equally on all fronts...

If you need to lecture, lecture away. I cant promise ill read it.
You do things your way, ill do things my way. Ive been face painting for 15 years my way and have never had a complaint. :-D
Do you use fluoride toothpaste? Yeah well that was originally poison and not meant for your bodies but people still brush with it. And lets not even start discussing that pigs and shellfish wernt meant to be eaten but they are.
