Facebook 101

Hello Forum Family,

First let me give you my disclaimer! I am not savvy(another words, an idiot) on FB.
I recently just started a personal and business fb page in the past few months. I have asked friends and family for help but I have learned they are not savvy, especially with a business FB page since they are different and they only have personal. So I am reaching out to y'all in hopes for a couple simple answers to my questions.
1st, What the bleepity bleep bleep am I doing? lol. (no answered needed for this!)
2nd, I want to like each of y'all pages but how? lol. I know I can like them from my personal page but can I like them from my business page? If so, how?
3rd, Will I see everything posted from y'all on my feed? Still learning what that even means. lol.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I have googled my questions but it all seems to pertain to personal FB pages and not business. I am looking to take a freakin class in my area but when I call around, one guy laughed and said, "You are just starting FB, its out of date now!" lol. I told him well it's freakin new to me skjpper! lol.
Thank you for any help you give me. Between y,all and me, I am intimidated by FB. lol. Shhhh...let's keep that our secret!

Before I offer my advice I'd like to know why you are dogging "traditional face painters" in the marketing of your business? Seems a little unfair to come and ask a group of people who are mostly traditional face painters for help when you throw such claims around. Most of us go to great lengths to make sure that our practices are sanitary and avoid the spread of germs.

Hi Kal. Thank you for looking at my website. Definitely no disrespect to you. Unfortunately in my area there are clean and sanitary face painters(friends with them) and ones that have been on the news with actual pics and videos of unsanitary face painting that causes shared germs and colds to spread. I was actually at a festival and the director actually came to me and asked to see my sponges. Told him I do not use sponges.  I am advocating to set myself apart from the backdoor face painters that do not practice safe methods. That was the first question for months asking me if I am the one on tv with the dirty germie sponges. That got old so with me saying I do not use sponges eliminates me from the backdoor painters. I do believe they relocated so I could change it possibly. Definitely not dogging traditional face painting. I just offer a different method of applying face paint than others in my area and I want to be sure I am not thought of as a backdoor painter. Hopefully cleared that up for you. Now...Any Facebook advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Had a dream last night and you were in it! lol. Noooooo... not THAT kinda dream! lol. I had been thinking what you said and apparently carried it into a really bizarre dream. I woke up from it and told my husband however i think I just validated to him that I might be inhaling too much airbrush paint cuz he looked at me like I was whacked! You were right. After re-reading it, the wording was harsh and I definitely didn't mean to include all face painters in what I wrote. There are excellent face painters in my area and not so great just like in every area. If I am not available, I always pass the great painters name and number along. Even the one I do not have any contact with, I still recommend her for she truly is a great face painter. Thank you for bringing that to my attention. I feel a good reality check we all sometimes need. Much painter love to you all!

I'm glad you were able to take my criticism constructively. If I were you I'd save the bit about spreading germs as an ace in my sleeve to seal the deal on a booking.

(I just heard all the respectable face painters gasp)

I'm a businesswoman, a sharky one at that. I just want you to fully understand what I meant by having a claim like that displayed publicly. It does a great disservice to traditional face painters who work hard to keep their setups clean and prevent the spread of bacteria if you're blasting them in public. Behind closed doors though, you are the one trying to make the sale and it sounds like a valid point.

Now for the facebook help...

The point of having facebook for yourself or your business is to reach out to followers via social media. It's been a superb way to speed up word of mouth advertising. Essentially, what you're doing is giving your business a voice.

You want to make posts that say "Look what I can do" and "This is why you need to hire me." Engage your customers with new designs and contests. You can ask for feedback or offer coupons. The sky is the limit. Your website indicates that you are no noob in the sales/marketing game so there is no need to be intimidated by facebook. It's nothing more than an interactive website that allows your audience direct access to your business via the internet. Think of it as cyber storefront.

If you're worried about the mechanics behind how it works, well just take a look. The number of total morons that come across your newsfeed is a pretty good indicator of how user friendly it is.
